He really thought he had it all figured out.
Everett believed that just by turning back and promising Selena marriage, she’d come running back to him with open arms. But he had no idea how many chances she'd given him, only for him to waste them, leaving her with disappointment time and time again. Now, she’d reached her limit, and she wasn't about to start over so easily.
In the past, Everett had taken for granted Selena’s endless patience and love. No matter what he did, she always forgave him, letting him get away with things. Maybe it was this ease that made him careless with her feelings.
Leaning against the wall, Everett tilted his head back slightly, muttering to himself, “You really are a mess, aren’t you?”
...
Selena spent a good while playing with the kids and getting them to sleep. By the time she stepped out, it was already 1 AM. She looked up to see Everett standing there, rooted to the spot, his eyes locked onto hers.
She wasn’t shocked. It’d be a surprise if he actually left without making a scene. But she didn’t say a word, just looked away as if he wasn’t even there, and headed straight for the master bedroom.
As soon as she walked in, Everett followed. She tried to shut the door, but he pushed it open and stepped inside. Frustration flashed in Selena’s eyes, and she couldn’t hold back any longer. “Everett, is this your idea of winning someone over? Or are you just trying to pull the same old tricks to drag me back?”
Everett felt a sharp pang in his chest. He took a step towards her instinctively, but she quickly backed away. “Stay back! Don’t touch me!”
