Everett's deep-set eyes sparkled with intensity, and his Adam's apple bobbed slightly. When he spoke again, his voice had taken on a huskier tone, "I've been working hard all night, Ms. Selena, and all I get is one meal as a reward? Isn't that a bit stingy?"
If you were to tally up the value, Selena might not even afford his services.
Selena's dark eyes slid towards him, "So, what do you want then?"
What did he want?
Everett, ever the opportunist, wrapped an arm around her slender waist, almost pinning her to the couch. He teased, "What do you think I want, hmm?"
As he spoke, his eyes roamed over her, from her crimson lips to her delicate collarbone, and further down...
His intentions were unmistakable.
Typical man.
Practically undressing her with his eyes.
Selena shot him a radiant smile that made Everett's heart skip a beat, then pushed him away.
"In your dreams."
Everett felt a pang of regret as she pushed him back, but he noticed a slight softening in Selena's demeanor, which was a delightful surprise for him.
Besides, he enjoyed Selena’s playful tricks and the little surprises; the push-and-pull made her all the more irresistible.
But his son didn’t quite get the subtleties of adult interactions and just watched, unimpressed.
Mateo: "Dad, Mom turned you down again. You're so lame!"
Haley: "Yeah, Dad's really lame."
Everett: "…You two are just too young to understand."
Mateo, not letting up: "You're lame, and you won't admit it!"
She closed her eyes, trying to sleep, but soon enough, the door creaked open. The sound of footsteps approached, and without a word, someone slipped into bed beside her.
Selena smirked, "Mr. Everett, did you wander into the wrong room?"
Everett, shamelessly cozying up to her, said, "I know you're scared of thunder and lightning. I came to keep you company, just in case you couldn't sleep alone."
As he spoke, he wrapped his arms around her from behind, holding her close.
Selena laughed softly, "Are you sure?"
She wasn't some naïve girl anymore, easily swayed by sweet talk.
Sure enough, moments later, Everett's tall frame hovered over her, his eyes in the dark, like a lurking panther.
His breath was warm, his gaze even warmer, "Of course, but if you need anything, I’m here for you."
