Selena hadn't seen Everett act so roguishly in ages; it was like stepping back into a different era. Everett, with his sharp intuition, could tell she wasn't seeing the man he had become, but rather the man he used to be. Pretending he wasn't a tad jealous would be a downright lie.
But he wasn't about to be foolish and argue with her about it. The past was history, and it was the future that truly mattered. They still had decades ahead of them—surely enough time to eclipse the seven rocky years they'd left behind?
Everett brushed her soft cheek with his large hand, leaning in to capture her lips gently. Selena, lost in the fog of her memories, didn't resist. Everett's emotions surged, turning his tentative kiss into something more intense as he deepened it.
Outside, the rain drummed harder, accompanied by gusts of cool wind. But inside, the heat was rising with every moment. Everett, having gone without for so long, was on the brink of losing control. Selena let out a soft whimper of discomfort, which snapped her back to the present. With a slight gasp, she pushed against his chest.
"That's enough."
The way things stood, their relationship couldn't handle this. Everett's dark eyes were full of frustration, a vein pulsing on his forehead as he gritted his teeth. "Selena, we're already here, and now you're stopping?"
"And it's obvious you have needs too..."
Everett was reluctant to back down, gently nibbling her ear as he whispered, "Selena, I want you..."
Selena could sense his longing, but it wasn’t right. In the quiet of night, reason and self-control often slip away, making it easy to give in and make choices one might regret.
