Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 897

Selena took a graceful sip of her coffee, a gentle smile playing on her lips as she slid a steaming cup of hot cocoa across the table to the woman sitting opposite her.

“I got this for you.”

Mallie glanced at it, her fingers tightening slightly. “You ordered ahead, so sure of yourself that I'd show up?”

Even though Mallie knew deep down that it was Abraham who was smitten with Selena, using her as a stand-in, she couldn't shake off the resentment toward Selena. She hated how Selena effortlessly captured the attention of the man she loved without even trying.

She couldn’t bring herself to hate her man, so she needed someone else to blame.

Selena was the easy target.

“I wasn’t sure,” Selena admitted honestly. “I don’t know you well, but... I do understand a mother's heart.”

Empathy is hard. Everyone's experiences, upbringing, and personalities are different.

Yet, there are emotions that are universal.

And you only truly get them once you've lived through them.

Selena only truly understood a mother's heart after becoming a mom herself, which helped her relate to Alexa and now anticipate Mallie's feelings.

And yeah, she got a bit lucky, too.

When Holt dug into Mallie's situation, he found out she was pregnant and planning to end the pregnancy today. Given her already fragile health, ending the pregnancy could mean she’d never have another chance. Selena guessed it wasn’t Mallie’s choice but Abraham’s.

Abraham, pushing forty, either couldn’t have kids or didn’t want them. With all his affairs, it was pretty clear it was the latter.

For women, either they’re too young and carefree to want kids, or as they get older, family becomes a bigger deal.

Among Abraham’s many flings, Mallie was the oldest.

That could even earn her some brownie points.

Mr. Abraham would lose faith in Selena, and she might dodge Selena’s plots. Maybe, if she played her cards right, he'd be so pleased he'd let her keep the child…

With these thoughts, Breanne grew more excited. “Selena, you’ve done it now. You’re finished.”

She quickly pulled her phone from her bag, ready to call Abraham.

Yet Selena stayed lounged back on the couch, watching her with a calm, almost lazy smile, not making a move to stop her, not even a flicker of panic.

Breanne thought she was just faking it. Once she laid it all bare, Mr. Abraham would see Selena differently.

Breanne decisively dialed Abraham’s number.
