Alex didn't dare probe further. After setting the coffee on the desk, she hesitated but finally spoke up, "Mr. Everett, Mrs. Thorne stopped by earlier. She waited at the door for a bit before leaving. She looked pretty upset... Maybe you should give her a call?"

Everett leaned back in his leather chair, lazily lifting his eyes to glance at Alex. Despite his seemingly calm demeanor, Alex felt a chill run down her spine, breaking out in a cold sweat. She quickly lowered her gaze, avoiding his eyes.
