Kayden pressed on. "What about after that?"
Brian answered without hesitation, "I won't marry her in the future either."
After lifting his gaze, he looked straight at Lydia. "Don't come here again without my permission."
Lydia's face went pale. She opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Estelle, unable to remain silent, stepped in. "Brian, that's too much. No matter what Lydia's done, it's only because she cares about you. How can you treat her like this?
"Besides, you two were engaged. Why make such a big deal out of some outsider?"
Brian's response was cold. "The engagement you're talking about? I honored that years ago. There's no need to revisit it."
Estelle's face darkened. She shot back sharply, "It's not the same! Lydia is the true heiress of the Perry family. The woman you married back then was a fake—"
"Enough," Brian interrupted with a sharp tone. "My marriage is no one's business. I'm tired. If you have nothing else to say, please leave."
His dismissal was blunt, and Estelle's anger flared.
"Fine. I can see now where I stand in your eyes!" With those words, she stormed out.
"Mrs. Norman—" Lydia called after her and quickly followed her out the door.
Liam, who had been quietly observing the entire time, finally spoke up as he prepared to leave. "Get some rest, Brian. Don't overdo it with the company work. I'll keep an eye on things."
"Alright." Brian nodded, and soon came the fading sound of Liam's footsteps.
The living room grew still again.
Kayden was still sulking. His plan to matchmake Charlotte and Brian had already been difficult, but now, after the scene Estelle and Lydia had caused, Charlotte was upset.
Things were only going to get harder from here. The more Kayden thought about it, the angrier he became. It was all Lydia's fault. She was beyond irritating.
…
When Charlotte got home, she quickly pushed what happened just now out of her mind.
