It felt really good to be trusted like that.
Ivy noticed Charlotte had gone quiet and figured out a few things on her own. She didn't want to pressure her, so she gently patted her on the shoulder and spoke.
"Lydia framed you, didn't she? I remember when that scandal broke out, she had just been brought back to the family. You're gorgeous and talented; you shine wherever you go. She must've lost her mind with jealousy. She probably felt so inferior she just had to find a way to screw you over."
A flicker of surprise crossed Charlotte's face. She hadn't expected Ivy to make such an accurate guess.
Ivy saw that look and immediately knew she had hit the nail on the head. She shot up from her seat in fury. "Wait, so it's true? Lydia is seriously messed up!"
She was so fired up that it looked like she was ready to storm out and give Lydia a proper beating.
Charlotte couldn't help but laugh and quickly said, "Okay, okay, calm down…"
Seeing her still able to laugh made Ivy's heart ache even more. She asked, "So… what happened after that? Keep going…"
Charlotte took another sip of wine before continuing.
She talked about the divorce, about how she left the Norman residence, how the Perry family pushed her to the edge, and how she couldn't find a job no matter where she went. Then, she brought up her accidental pregnancy.
"If my biological parents and older brothers hadn't found me back then and brought me back to Juxburg, I don't even know where I'd be right now…"
Ivy's eyes were misting over, her heart breaking for everything Charlotte had been through. At the same time, she was utterly disgusted by the way the Perry family had treated her.
"How could they be so heartless? Kicking you out wasn't enough; they still had to try and destroy you completely. No wonder Lydia turned out to be a total monster. She's clearly a chip off the old block. So, what did they say to you tonight before I showed up?"
She had only caught the last few sentences and hadn't heard the full conversation.
Charlotte didn't hold anything back and told Ivy everything that had gone down with those people earlier.
