Manfred's throat felt like it was on fire. It was as if his entire body had suddenly ignited in flames.
So, he hurriedly gulped down a mouthful of cold tea.
The icy liquid slid down his throat, offering only a fleeting moment of relief before the burning sensation surged back, engulfing him completely. Even the chilly temperature of the room couldn't suppress the ferocity of the sensation.
Uncontrollably, his mind began to conjure images of Vivian. Her every movement, her every smile, expanded and replayed endlessly in his mind.
"The food was tampered with!"
Manfred bit down on his lip, the sharp taste of blood spreading in his mouth. The metallic tang was strong, yet it couldn't suppress the primal desires surging through his body.
However, reason prevailed for the time being.
While his rationality remained intact, he hid all traces of Vivian in the room. He also removed his down jacket and changed into the clothes Randall had sent him.
The scent of the new clothes was unfamiliar and unpleasant—a rotten, decaying odor, like an insidious temptation to descend into depravity.
It filled him with disgust, much like the disdain he felt for being Randall's son.
The flickering candlelight swayed erratically, mirroring the chaos in his heart.
Caught between the urge to indulge and the need for restraint, he found himself consumed by a maddening desire to see Vivian.
"Vivian… Vivian…"
Just then, there was a knock at the door. The sound was soft yet insistent.
Sweat already coated Manfred's forehead as he turned to look toward the door, his gaze unfocused and dazed.
"Is it you?"

More chapters please...
Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
