After the meeting, Nan Chen returned to his office, only to find Nan Xing pacing anxiously around the room.
“You have to intervene in this matter. Otherwise, I'll never be happy in my life!” Nan Xing pleaded.
“I don't care,” Nan Chen said indifferently.
“Huh? If even you won't intervene, are you just going to let them run wild?”
“I wouldn't dare meddle in matters concerning your lifelong happiness.”
“You're the CEO, though! How can you allow your subordinates to dismiss an excellent senior manager arbitrarily?” Nan Xing was furious.
“Are you talking about Lu Jingyuan?”
“You knew? Then why are you still letting them run wild?” Nan Xing became even more anxious.
“I've already dealt with it. No one will force Lu Jingyuan to resign anymore. There's no evidence to suggest she's done anything detrimental to the company's interests. No one can fire her.”
Nan Xing finally breathed a sigh of relief. “That's more like it! You really are clear-headed about everything! As expected from my brother.”
“Although, I heard from Lu Jingyuan's secretary that even though the HR department told her she didn't need to resign, she's insistent on leaving. She had her secretary book a flight back to the capital the next day. If you care about this, you'll need to find a way to make her stay—”
Before Nan Chen could finish his sentence, Nan Xing had already stormed out of the office.
Nan Xing arrived at the real estate department. There, Lu Jingyuan's secretary informed him that Lu Jingyuan had left her resignation letter on the desk and had already taken all her belongings.
In the letter, Lu Jingyuan mentioned that her decision to leave was final. No one needed to persuade her anymore, nor could they.
Nan Xing left the company and drove to the apartment where Lu Jingyuan lived.
After knocking for a long time, Lu Jingyuan still didn't open the door.
He called Lu Jingyuan, but there was no answer.
He had no choice but to send a message: Open up. You left something at the office. I've brought it over for you.
Only then did Lu Jingyuan open the door. Nan Xing immediately and forcefully barged in.
“Get out, or I'm calling the police!” Lu Jingyuan said angrily.
“I've already spoken to my brother,” Nan Xing said anxiously. “He said you've done nothing wrong. No one can fire you.”
“I don't want to stay. That's all there is to it,” Lu Jingyuan said calmly.
“Why is that?”
“No particular reason.”
“I won't accept that as the answer. You can't leave!” Nan Xing exclaimed urgently.
“I can go where I please. Who are you to stop me?” Lu Jingyuan retorted disdainfully.
“It's not my place to interfere, but you're being irresponsible like this!”
“The company suspects me of leaking information. I don't want to work in a place where I'm constantly under suspicion of such actions. Does that make me irresponsible?”
“It is! You can't do this! How could you just up and leave when I had such a hard time bringing you back from the capital in the first place? Tell me, what will it take for you to stay? Feel free to state your terms! How about a twenty percent raise? If the company doesn't agree, I'll personally give you the extra money!”
Lu Jingyuan sneered, “Are you trying to make me a nouveau riche?”
Upon reflection, Nan Xing realized that using money to retain people was effective only for ordinary employees. However, it seemed to be of no use when it came to individuals like Lu Jingyuan. “Tell me what you want, then! I'll grant it to you!”
“I don't want anything. All I want is to leave. Stop talking. No matter what you say, I won't stay. Thank you for taking care of me during this time. Goodbye.”
A sudden wave of sadness washed over Nan Xing when he heard that.
“This situation isn't really the company's doing. It was my brother's special assistant who, after hearing what my grandmother said, accused you of leaking information. My grandmother isn't really a bad person, you know. It's just that she's old and sometimes does stupid things. Please don't take it too seriously. Stay! Don't leave!”
Lu Jingyuan listened quietly to Nan Xing's words. In reality, she had guessed most of what happened.
As an executive of her level, if she were asked to resign purely due to work-related reasons, her immediate superior would have a discussion with her. They would've explained the whole situation.
