Since Linda hadn’t gone home last night, she needed to check on Lex today. Otherwise, Lexi would be pouting, upset. 

William woke up in the faint morning light, and his head was pounding. Memories of last night’s drunken state echoed in his mind. 

He had called Linda, and she had answered. He had said everything he needed to say, and she had listened. However, he couldn’t remember what she said afterward and only knew that there was no chance for them anymore. 

He rubbed his aching temples and got up to take a shower. 

Linda drove into the yard. As soon as she entered the house, she heard Lexi’s voice. 

“Daddy, why isn 1 Mommy back yet? she didn’t come home last night. Does she not love me anymore and not want me?” Lexi was showing signs of a tantrum. “Who’s spreading such nonsense? 

Hearing Linda’s voice, Lexi immediately slid off the dining table and rushed into her arms. “Mommy!” 

“What’s wrong?” Linda looked down to see tears welling up in Lexd’s big, doe–like eyes. “Oh, why is my little sweetheart crying? 

Lexi wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. “You always come home, so why didn’t you come back last night? Do you not like me anymore and not want me Linda carried her back to the dining table 

“Why would I not want you? She explained gently, “There was a heavy rain last night”

“I was stuck in a hotel because of the rain, and it wasn’t safe for me to come home. Do you not want to see me anymore?” 

Less clung tightly to Linda’s neck. “No, I want you to stay with me all the time.” 

so, don’t be mad anymore. Look how much I love you. I was supposed to go to work today, but because I didn’t come back last night, I rushed back to see you. Yet, you just said I don’t love you and made me sad” 

Linda pretended to wipe away tears, and Lexi immediately kissed her cheek. 

Samson watched the mother and daughter’s little act with a touch of helplessness, 

“Alright. Stop fussing and eat your breaksmt.” 

Lexi sat in her chair, drinking oatmeal with aspoon that had a straw, specially prepared by Ava that morning 

“By the way, you’ll need to look after Lexi for the coming week,” Linda said, recalling that she had finalized a location during an emergency meeting last night.
