“Wow! Your car’s so cool, Ms!” Aura beamed, touching the corners of the backseat where she sat with her brother.
Asher laughed, looking like he’d have said a lot if he could talk.
Sylvie smiled, staring at him through the interior mirror. If only she could hear him speak more often….
“Do you like the car, Asher?” She asked, sliding her gaze between him and the road.
He nodded happily.
“Come on. Why don’t you use your words? You have a very lovely voice, you know?”
The boy lowered his head, as if contemplating.
Then, he looked back at her. “Y…Y…es. I…like it.” He turned the last sentence in a whisper.
Sylvie’s eyes lit up, her lips opening in awe. She’d heard him speak before, but it sounded just amazing both times.
“Asher!” Aura nudged him in the waist. “You never speak when I beg you to! If you can talk, why don’t you just keep doing that?”
He lowered his head bashfully while Sylvie laughed.
Come on, Aura. Let’s give him a break. Asher’s trying his best and soon, he’ll be just as good at this. Right, Asher?”
He nodded gleefully. God, he was so handsome. Sylvie couldn’t stop admiring him.
They arrived at the prestigious restaurant, and judging from how fascinated the kids looked, it was obvious they weren’t used to such places. Sylvie’s heart clenched at the possibility that they might have never even been there before.
She held their hands on both sides of her as they walked into the place, approaching the display case.
“What would you like to have?” She asked them.
They didn’t give her a response as they swept their gaze across the place, their eyes wide with excitement.
They looked at each case like it was a precious item they were just seeing for the first time.
Sylvie didn’t care about the people around and if they’d find the kids‘ behaviour weird. All she cared about was the two children who looked like they’d been deprived of the basic things of life.
“That one!” Aura finally pointed at Beef Briskets. “And this!”
Asher, not using words, pointed at something different.
Sylvie smiled. “Is that all you need? You can get more if you want
Aura’s eyes beamed. “Really!?”
“Of course! We can even get each of everything if you so wish it!
Aura laughed, while Asher giggled.
“Uh…I think that’d be unnecessary. There’s no way Asher and I can finish every single thing.”
They went ahead to add two more things to their list, which Sylvie relayed to the attendant. While the attendant

microwaved and got their order ready, Sylvie’s phone rang, interrupting the moment.
It was her grandfather.
“Stay here, okay? I’ll be back.” She said to the kids before walking off, placing the phone over her ear.

She walked over to a corner of the room that was quiet and convenient enough for the call. It was business related, Galen giving her some information on some of the clients she was to meet up
with.
While the call was on, Asher and Aura continued looking at the rest of the meals.
“That looks delicious!” Aura exclaimed, pointing at a sandwich.
Asher happily nodded.

“Looks like it’s just one left.” She glanced over at where Sylvie was making the call. “Do you think I should tell her to get it for us? Or will she get mad about it?”
Asher shook his head, disagreeing that someone as sweet as Sylvie would get mad over adding that to their order.
Aura kicked her legs. “When she gets back, then. I’ll tell her to add it to our order.”
They waited patiently, their first order still being microwaved.
It was going just fine for them, until a young man walked in, standing before the counter.
need the sandwich. And twelve pieces of buffalo wings.” He spoke in a clipped tone.
Aura’s lips parted. No way!
“Yes, sir.” The attendant moved to prepare his order.
Aura and Asher exchanged glances at each other.
“I want that!” Aura suddenly said. “You’re taking the last one.”
The man, who looked mean enough, simply glanced at her before returning his gaze to the attendant who looked like she wanted to scold the child for talking out of place.
She went ahead to pack up his order and handed it to him.
Asher’s shoulders slumped, a look of defeat in his eyes.
Aura felt wounded. It was their first time coming to a place like this. The nice aunty might never bring them here again, and then, they wouldn’t have another chance of tasting the good–looking piece.
Before she could stop herself, she was out the door running after the man.
“It’s not fair!” She said as loudly as she could.
There were a few people outside who turned to watch the surprising scene.
The man who was in front of his car had stopped walking, staring at the little girl like she’d come out of a movie screen.
“You get to come here all the time!” Aura continued, her small hands fisting together. “The least you could’ve done was leave it to me and my brother. You’re grown enough to do that!”
The few people around gasped, stunned by the little girl’s audacity.

The young man glanced at the bag in his hand, then at her. He probably never expected that she’d make an issue out of something that small.
“What’re you talking about?” He inched toward her. “I didn’t steal this from you.”
“But I told you I wanted it!”
Asher was out as well, standing closely behind his sister.
The backdoor of the man’s car opened, and Kage Hawkins stepped out.
“Raphael,” he called in a rather displeased tone. “What is going on with you and the girl?”
“Nothing, boss,” Raphael said, looking over his shoulder. “She’s just making a ruckus ‘cause I got the last Sandwich.”
To Raphael’s surprise, the little girl sidestepped him, going over to meet Kage who looked grumpy at the door of his car.
“You look kinder.” Her voice was softer. “Please tell him to give it back.”
Kage cocked a brow at her.
He had no business with the sandwich. Raphael was getting it for his little niece who had been pestering him for it. But Kage wasn’t cool with the scene he’d been seeing which was why he had to step out of the car.
