Chapter 148
Sylvie was still on a phone call when she looked around and noticed the kids were gone. Her heart had jumped into her throat, threatening to escape through her mouth.
She ended the call hastily, running out. And as soon as she found them safe in front of her, relief crushed her.
But she froze, taking note of the people around them. Raphael and Kage?
What?
It took her a moment longer to gather herself and move towards the kids.
Kage wore a perplexed look, his gaze shifting between Sylvie and the kids.
Sylvie noticed his face harden, and a million questions flooded her mind.
Was he communicating with the kids? Over what? How did they even get to meet?
“Aura? What’s… what’s going on?” She asked, standing beside the little boy.
Aura turned fully to explain to her. “The mean man here took the last Sandwich which Asher and I wanted. So, I came out here to talk to him.”
Sylvie took note of the bag in Raphael’s hand, then it all made sense.
She put out her hand. “We didn’t get it on time, honey. Come on. We’ll just get it some other mobile
The look on Kage’s face had gotten worse.
Aura stepped toward her, taking her hand.
Sylvie gave him a lingering stare, then dipped her head toward Raphael. “I’m sorry if they caused you any trouble. You should understand how kids can be.”
To their surprise, Raphael held out the bag to them. “They can have all of it. I’ll just get it elsewhere.”
“Oh, no. You don’t need to worry about-”
“I need to have a word with you.” Kage demanded, his tone brooking no room for argument.
Even the kids jerked their faces at him, wondering why he suddenly sounded so cold.
Sylvie’s heart skipped a beat. She had definitely seen this coming
She was tempted to turn him down, but she knew Kage. He’d get pissed, and she wasn’t ready to get entangled in any more of his displays.
Nodding at Asher, he collected the bag form Raphael with a wide smile.
“Thank you so much, sir!” Aura dipped her head.
“Wait inside. Just find a table to sit, and don’t go anywhere, okay Sylvie instructed.
The kids nodded and happily ran inside.
Not saying a word, Kage returned to the car. Sylvie crossed her arms, her heart racing.

“You should go in. Raphael inclined his head towards the backdoor.
He probably wanted them to talk in the car because a lot of people were staring at them now.
But being in such smYall space with him… Did she actually want hat?
With a huff, she made her way in through the opposite side.
Kage was cold; frosty–cold.
“Who the fuck are they?” She was barely seated before he threw the heavy question at her.

The space between them was too small for Sylvie to feel comfortable. It reminded her of times that added more injuries to her heart.
“Asher and Aura.” She avoided his gaze as she answered, crossing her arms over her chest.
Kage muttered some guessable words under his breath. “I don’t mean their names, Sylvie, and you know it!”
“You might want to be a tile specific, Mr. Hawkins. You just asked me who they were.”
“Whose kids are they!?”
She finally looked at him, trying so hard to mask the pain from her eyes. The speed of her heart was on a whole new level now, and she hoped to God that he couldn’t see how wounded she was.
What if they’re mine? Or do you think that’s impossible? Or maybe, you’ve truly forgotten that I was pregnant four years ago.”
Kage’s eyes glinted, his gaze not leaving hers.
Sylvie’s eyes finally shimmered with treacherous unshed tears. “Did you forget, Mr. Hawkins?”
“I could never forget, Sylvie!” His voice rose a notch. “And I know you lost the babies.”
She gasped, her mouth falling wide open.
Good Lord. He knew! Of course, he knew!
A tear slipped down, followed by another, then another.
“You… You knew!” She sounded betrayed. “All these years, you know, yet you never cared to know what happened? What? Do you think I just fell off the stairs and lost them? You never cared to hear from me, asshole!”
Kage remained silent, but his eyes hinted at the emotions warring within him.
“Okay. I get that I hurt you and all. But it’s our kids, Kage! The kids we both made and looked forward to. You probably decided it was pointless keeping communication with me since the last link we had was gone. But do you have any idea what I went through!? What YOUR kids went through?”
