The twins grew scared instantly. Sylvie noticed them being reluctant to move away from her side to the young lady’s.

Sylvie was pissed. How could she use such foul language with the kids?

“Are you shitting me right now?” The lady scoffed, running her fingers through her hair again. “Do you have any idea how long I’ve been waiting out here? It’s been more than fifteen minutes!” 

“That means you were two hours late to get the kids from school. Don’t you think that’s wrong, Ms?” 

The lady scoffed, taken aback by Sylvie’s audacity. 

She stepped closer to her. “Are you trying to blame me? Who the fuck do you think you are?” 

This was not how Sylvie had envisioned her first meeting with the kids‘ mother to go. She’d thought she’d be meeting responsible woman who she could have a reasonable conversation with. She could hardly call the lady in front of her a mother.

The lady would’ve actually been beautiful if it wasn’t for how rugged she made herself look. She had dark liner under her eyes, multiple piercings on her ear and even one of her nose. 

She looked like someone who’d be too busy on the streets to have time for her kids. That explained why the kids looked uncared for. 

Sylvie was just meeting this lady for the first time, yet she already didn’t like her. Something was not right between her and the kids. 

“I’m sorry if you feel offended,” she took a deep breath, reminding herself to remain calm for the kids‘ sake. “Actually, I met your kids when they were waiting for you and became friends with them. I was actually the one who gifted them the iPads. They told you about that right?”

“Well, I’m not interested in talking.” she cut Sylvie off, turning around. “Just next time, make sure you don’t keep me waiting. And if you’re desperate to have friends, find someone your age. She turned to the kids. “Let’s go” 

Sylvie’s mouth hung open in shock as she watched the lady walk away with Asher and Aura. What the hell was that? How cold anyone be so uncultured? So rude? 

The teacher who had been standing and watching the scene, shrugged pitifully and shook his head. “You should leave now,” he said to Sylvie before leaving himself. 

For some moments, Sylvie stayed rooted to the spot, staring into the distance where the kids and their mother walked. The sadness she’d seen in their eyes… Were they fine? 

Her phone beeped in her bag, finally snapping her out of the moment.

She turned away to her carey she retrieved the phone to check the text. Her steps instantly froze when she looked and discovered it was a text from the anonymous sender.
