When Cedric met Noelle's gaze, he almost lost his balance for a moment. Her eyes were bloodshot, seemingly filled with hatred.
That look in her eyes felt like a knife stabbing into his chest, causing him immense pain. He found that it was hard to even breathe.
Cedric carefully wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes. "He will pay for this."
However, they had already paid the price.
Noelle quickly regained her composure and replied, "I have to find out the truth about the car accident from then on."
"I'll help you with the investigation," Cedric replied.
He made up his mind. Since Xenia's father was still alive, he realized that the accident was not as simple as he had thought. He began to wonder if the Merlock family was really innocent.
Cedric needed to look into the matter thoroughly. He glanced at Noelle and could not bring himself to say what had been on the tip of his tongue.
Noelle looked at the clock and said, "Shall we start sparring practice?"
He turned around and brought out a box. "I got this when I was on my business trip. I hope you like them."
She opened the box and found a pair of red boxing gloves. "It looks good!"
Noelle had been using the gym's gloves but had not yet bought her own. She had planned to purchase a pair of boxing gloves once she got better at the sport, but she did not expect Cedric to have already bought one for her.
"Do you like them?" Cedric asked.
"I like them! This is a great gift," Noelle replied. She immediately put them on and found that it was a perfect fit.
As he stared at her smile, his eyes became filled with a mix of emotions. He eventually spoke up with a heavy heart. "Try them on and see how they feel."
Noelle was too focused on the gift to notice the deep sorrow in his eyes.
…
After sparring practice, Noelle was so exhausted that she lay flat on the floor. She looked at her gloves and said, "Having my own boxing gloves really does feel different. These are so much better."
Cedric considerately brought her a towel and a bottle of water and even helped to wipe the sweat off her neck.
