Chapter 456 Is The Child Mine
“No matter her intentions, I won't let her succeed!” Zachary declared righteously.
With a light chuckle, Lenora remarked, “At least you're sensible.”
Having passed this hurdle, Zachary let out a small sigh of relief. “Nora, you know her, don't you?”
He spoke with certainty.
Lenora didn't deny it, responding, “From what you're implying, she mentioned me to you. What did she tell you?”
“I won't believe anything she said,” he asserted.
Lenora raised an eyebrow. “Zachary, you being on the right track now makes me see you in a new light.”
Zachary chuckled lightly and changed the topic. “When will you be back?”
“Soon.”
Before returning to the country, Lenora invited Bella, Jermaine, and others for a feast, saying she would return if given the opportunity.
At twenty minutes past eight in the morning, Madison entered the office area. From a distance, she spotted a cup of soy milk on her desk and a lunch box beside it. Upon opening the box, she found five pancakes, five fritters, and two pieces of bread. There was also a paper bag next to it, inside which was a single poached egg.
Madison furrowed her brows slightly, instinctively glancing at the nearby Connor.
The latter flashed her a smile.
Madison averted her gaze and settled down in her seat. She pulled out her phone, swiftly locating Connor's WhatsApp. Her fingers danced across the screen, typing a quick message that read: I'll leave the breakfast in the pantry later. Get it yourself.
The company did not permit office romances.
Madison and Connor worked in the same department but were on different projects and their work didn't overlap much. His bringing her breakfast would seem out of the blue and might lead people to suspect a budding romance.
Connor only dared to leave breakfast on her desk by taking advantage of the early hour when the office area was still empty.
If someone were to see, a round of teasing would be manageable, but the real fear was someone tattling to the superiors.
Connor texted back: I brought it for you. Just eat it.
Madison: I've already eaten. You don't need to bring me breakfast in the future. I've said it before, the child I'm carrying has nothing to do with you!
Upon typing this, Madison couldn't help but blame herself for her past carelessness.
Only after joining the company did she realize Connor also worked there. Due to guilt toward him, she didn't wish to have too much interaction with him and acted as if she didn't know him.
Connor believed the incident at the hot spring resort had greatly affected her. With guilt in his heart, he followed her wishes and acted as if he didn't know her, like two ordinary colleagues who had just met.
After all, Madison was only interning here. Once the summer vacation ended, she would leave this place.
Until that day during the midday break, when some colleagues hadn't returned from lunch, some were eating their ordered takeaways, while others were sprawled on their desks, catching a nap, and so on.
Madison had ordered takeout and had already finished eating.
She held her medicine bottle and discreetly came to the pantry to take her medication.
After taking her medicine, Madison turned to find Connor standing behind her, his gaze fixed on the medicine bottle on the table.
Madison's heart leaped to her throat, and she instinctively grabbed the medicine bottle and shoved it back into her pocket.
However, Connor had already seen the words on the medicine bottle.
He scrutinized Madison, his gaze settling on her abdomen. Suddenly, he understood why she was always dressed in very loose clothing.
Madison opened her mouth, trying to clear up any misunderstandings.
Before she could even speak, Connor asked solemnly, “The child is mine, isn't it?”
Madison was stunned and immediately replied, “It's not yours. It has nothing to do with you.”
“If not mine, whose is it?” Connor pressed further.
Her belly was already showing signs of pregnancy, necessitating loose clothing to conceal it. This indicated the child was at least four or five months along. Upon calculating the timeline, it could only be his.
