Chapter 463 Taking The Blame
Naturally, Isla didn't speak the truth, “I told you about what happened in Sloummont before. The two of them were the ones who stole my watch. A few days ago, I ran into Fay's friend at the mall. She recognized me and mocked me. I was so angry that when I saw them today, I wanted to give them a scare. But they smashed my car and even pinned me to the ground and beat me!”
To her surprise, Zephyr furrowed his brows and snapped, “Who told you to mess with them?”
At the mention of the Sloummont incident, Zephyr knew it must've been Lenora and Sophia.
At that time, even though he hadn't returned to the country yet, he was constantly keeping tabs on Sophia's social media. He would often browse through her posts, aware that she had accompanied Lenora to Sloummont.
She wouldn't allow herself to be taken advantage of, yet she wouldn't ridicule others without reason, either. There must have been a cause for her actions.
Moreover, Isla's words couldn't be trusted. People always tailored their stories to benefit themselves. It was like when Isla had someone break another person's leg but downplayed it as a mere “minor injury.”
Isla was stunned by her brother's words. “Even if I frightened them, they didn't lose anything. How could they smash my car and hit me? Zephyr, why are you defending them?”
Despite my efforts to downplay my involvement, Zephyr didn't side with me! He's blinded by his love for Fay!
“Why didn't you retaliate when she mocked you a few days ago? You were clearly upset.” Zephyr gave her a cold, displeased look in response.
“Because—”
Zephyr cut her off sharply, “Because aside from depending on Father and the Wilson family, you can't do anything on your own. Whenever you're wronged, you act like a child, running to your parents to complain!”
“You—” Isla's voice trembled. She was so frustrated that she was on the verge of tears.
First, Lenora humiliated her by smashing her car and slapping her, and now Zephyr scolded her. She had never felt so wronged. The injustice was almost too much to bear.
“How could you! I'm telling Uncle Matthew!” she cried out.
“Go ahead. Let's see if he'll back you up,” Zephyr said calmly, confident that Matthew would never back her up.
First, there was Matthew's character to consider. Second, Lenora was Zachary's cherished ex-wife. To resolve the case involving Lenora's father, Zachary had ruthlessly dismantled the White family's influence.
Despite his ruthless and decisive nature in the business world, Zachary was a hopeless romantic who couldn't get over Lenora. Matthew was no fool; he knew better than to make a rash move against Lenora, especially when he was in the wrong.
Alice, witnessing Zephyr's reaction, bit her lip with a darkened gaze. Looks like Caesare is even more fond of Fay than I expected.
When Zephyr was discovered and brought back to the Wilson family, he was already eighteen years old.
Isla, who had been raised as the only child of the Wilson family, immediately took a dislike to him. Her jealousy fueled her constant attempts to make his life difficult.
However, with Isla's limited intellect, her petty schemes were nothing more than child's play to Zephyr, who never took her seriously.
Zephyr excelled both academically and within the company, earning increasing admiration and affection from Bjorn and his wife, Felicity.
“Isla often overheard praises for Zephyr from those around her, which sometimes included compliments for her as well. Some even asked if Zephyr had a girlfriend.
This boosted Isla's vanity, and over time, she began to gradually accept Zephyr as her brother.”
Bjorn and Felicity were well aware of Isla's difficult nature and the challenges in changing it. They worried that, as half-siblings, the bond between them might not be strong enough, and feared that Zephyr might abandon Isla after their passing. As a result, they often reminded Zephyr to take good care of his sister.
In Alice's memory, Zephyr had undoubtedly been a wonderful brother over the years. Though he would harshly reprimand Isla whenever she bullied others, he always stepped in to handle the aftermath and protect her.
The last time at Saleel Photography, Isla had falsely accused Lenora of stealing a necklace, which led to Lenora's resignation. Usually, Zephyr would have ignored such trivial matters, but that time, he insisted that Isla apologize to Lenora.
Even now, despite Isla being beaten so severely, he still sided with Lenora.
Looks like it'll be no easy task to make him get over Fay.
Isla returned to Matthew's place with her face all bruised and swollen.
Matthew had a son and a daughter. His son was already married and had moved out with his wife, while his daughter was studying abroad.
