“Hello, Zephyr.”

David and Evelyn smiled in response, sizing up Zephyr from head to toe.

He wore a black shirt, black trousers, and leather shoes, creating a simple yet polished look. His glasses softened his sharp, defined features and deep, thoughtful eyes, giving him a gentle and refined appearance.

“Come in and have a seat. Set your things down, you must be tired from carrying them around.”

Evelyn was pretty impressed just by how he looked. However, there was something about him that seemed familiar, like she had seen him somewhere before.

“I hope I didn't keep you waiting, Mr. and Mrs. Tortell. I wasn't sure what you might like, so I brought a few things. This necklace is for Mrs. Tortell, and I hope you'll like it. I also heard that Mr. Tortell enjoys fine wine, so I brought two bottles of Lafite for you to try.” Zephyr placed the gift box on the table and gently slid it toward Evelyn.

Evelyn opened the box and saw a pearl necklace inside. The pearls were large, white, and shiny. From her experience, she could tell the necklace was priced at several thousand dollars.

As for the two bottles of wine on the table, David took a glance at the vintage on the label. If these were sold at a club, each bottle would start at a minimum of one hundred thousand.

“Thank you so much for the thoughtful gifts, Zephyr. But next time, there's no need for anything so expensive. David and I have everything we need. As long as you and Sophia are happy, that's all that matters,” Evelyn said.

The fact that he can give such expensive gifts so easily shows that he is financially stable. At least Sophia won't have to worry about lacking anything in the future. And seeing how calm, confident, and polite he is, I'm already feeling pretty satisfied.

“Don't worry, Mrs. Tortell. I'll take good care of Sophia,” Zephyr said, his gaze unwavering as he spoke to Evelyn. Sitting on the couch, he smiled and glanced at Sophia beside him.

“Now that you've said that, I feel better. But you can't just talk the talk; you have to back it up with actions. Sophia has a simple, pure nature and has been spoiled by us, so you'll need to be patient and understanding with her,” Evelyn replied.

“I understand, Mrs. Tortell. You still care for Sophia just like you always have.”

Evelyn was slightly surprised by Zephyr's reply and asked, “How's that? Have you met me before?”

“To be honest, I've known Sophia since high school,” Zephyr said, glancing at Sophia with a warm smile. He continued, “In our senior year, I came over to tutor her, and I happened to run into you when you got home from work. You even brought her some dessert.”

Sophia pursed her lips and quietly nudged him.

Evelyn was surprised and thought for a moment. She realized it was true. “Ah, no wonder you looked familiar when I saw you! What a coincidence. I guess this is your destiny with Sophia. Now, don't just talk, have some pears.”

Zephyr took the pear from Evelyn and bit into it. He then smiled and said, “Thank you, Mrs. Tortell. To be honest, I worked a bit to make this happen... I won't lie, I've liked Sophia since high school. After returning to the country, I found out she was still single. Since Lionel is your friend, I jokingly told him I was looking for someone. He asked what kind of person I liked, and I described Sophia... And that's how he helped set us up.”

David chuckled and responded, “You're a clever one, huh?”

Upon hearing Zephyr's words, Evelyn's satisfaction with him momentarily dropped, but after a moment of reflection, it returned to where it had been.
