Because she could not wait to see Abigail, Felicia, for once, did not transfer to a bus but instead called a cab directly to the adoptive parent’s apartment.
Yes, Salomé had made an appointment, and the adoptive parent agreed to meet at home, to reassure Felicia and to ensure she would never disturb their lives again.
Since she arrived almost half an hour earlier than the agreed time and Salomé had not yet come, Felicia could only wait outside the door.
She looked at the detached villa, which was set some distance apart from the neighbors.
It must have belonged to a wealthy person.
Felicia thought to herself.
She walked around the house, looking at both the front and back. In the backyard, there was a specially renovated children’s playground, which seemed to have been built not long ago, as everything still looked very new.
However, Abigail was too young; she would probably have to wait another year until she could walk before she could play there.
Perhaps Salomé was right–a father who had lost a child might be the most patient and loving
toward children.
After all, he would transfer all the love he once lost onto the child.
But what worried her most at the moment was actually Abigail’s blood disease.
She did not know whether it was congenital or due to some other reason. Although it was not a big problem now, as Abigail grew up, it would inevitably affect her organ development. If it remained dormant, that would be fine, but if it affected her organs and caused failure… So it was best to start intervention and treatment now, and to look for a match.
This was something she had to remind the adoptive parent about.
As she was thinking, a sudden, piercing cry came from inside the house.
Felicia’s eyes narrowed.
It was Abigail!

Felicia was about to rush in, but suddenly remembered that in France, illegally breaking into someone else’s house could legally get her shot by the homeowner.
Damn this free country!
Felicia cursed inwardly, but her mind remained exceptionally calm.
It was normal for a baby to cry; maybe the adoptive parent was holding her uncomfortably…
But she was crying so miserably!
Abigail was always so well–behaved, even her cries were gentle, and she would calm down with just a little coaxing.
Enough, she would call the police!
Even if she was mistaken and the police came to scold her for wasting police resources and fined her, she would accept it.
After making the call, she dialed Salomé before going to knock on the door.
But no one answered no matter how long she knocked.
The crying continued, and Felicia’s heart was burning with anxiety.
She moved a stone to the window, stepped onto it, and leaned against the window to look inside.
Her pupils instantly trembled uncontrollably.
Inside the house, a man with a ferocious expression was viciously strangling Abigail through the blanket, cursing, “Why are you still crying? Stop it, or I’ll kill you!”
“Stop! Stop!!!” Felicia frantically pounded on the window glass, and the loud noise finally drew the man’s attention.
“Shit!”
The man seemed to snap out of a crazed state, instantly letting go of Abigail, and strode toward the window with a menacing look.
“Who are you? Mind your own business!”
“I have an appointment with Madame Morel. What were you just doing? You are abusing her!”
Felicia pointed at the door, “Open the door! Give Abby back to me!”
“You want this little brat? Fine, I’ll give her to you.” The man laughed wildly, took a hunting rifle

from the wall, and said, “I’ll give you three seconds. Maybe you’ll still have your life.”

Felicia was not unafraid. Seeing the dark muzzle of the gun pointed straight at her forehead from inside the window, she nervously swallowed.
But she still pointed at the door, forcing herself to sound tough, “Open the door!”
She jumped down from the stone and quickly ran to the door to knock.
It seemed the door had already been unlocked from the inside.
She had barely knocked when the door opened a crack by itself.
