In this godforsaken, pitch-black place, she never dared to think deeply about whether Ulrik would actually come or not.

She could no longer shift; she could only pin all her hopes on Ulrik.

Every single day, she brainwashed herself: he would definitely come, he had promised to take her away.

This was the only belief keeping her alive in this hell.

If it weren’t for this crazy hope, her mind would have shattered into madness long ago when those punishments rained down on her.

Suddenly, the sound of a heavy, rusted iron door turning echoed through the darkness.

Immediately after, a piercing beam of orange light shone into the cramped death cell.

Velda’s eyes felt a stab of sharp pain from the intense light. Her heart instantly sank. Why would anyone come at this hour?

Over the past half month, those guards only came twice a day. What did it mean for them to suddenly show up now?

Was Helia finally planning to send her to the guillotine?

Extreme terror made Velda’s battered body tremble violently.

Ever since arriving at Snowdeer Town and having her legs brutally broken, she could no longer stand like a normal werewolf. She could only crawl helplessly every day in this dark, damp cell reeking of excrement.

She struggled to prop her head up using her chin and elbows, following the light with cloudy vision.

The visitor was a young she-wolf carrying a lantern, and there wasn’t a large group of guards following behind her. Only then did Velda’s tense nerves slowly relax.

Thalia stood expressionless in front of the thick black iron bars, her eyes slightly lowered as she looked down at Velda squirming on the ground.

She extended the lantern forward, letting the light fall onto Velda’s face, which was covered in dried blood, dirt, and pus.

This once endlessly glorious female warrior was now so pathetic and unbearably ugly.

“Velda,” Thalia’s voice stirred up echoes in the hollow dungeon.

“Helia has issued the highest execution order. First thing tomorrow morning, you will be escorted to Ironwood Town and Bloodthorn Village. You personally sold out those two villages; do you still remember?”

Thalia’s words sent a violent shiver down Velda’s spine.

How could she ever forget those two villages?

Those were the slaughter grounds she had personally sold to the Western Tribe in order to surrender and pledge her allegiance to them.

Terror shredded the last bit of her calm. Velda dug her elbows into the moldy floor, squirming frantically forward, crying out in a slurred voice.

“No… No! I won’t go! Didn’t you say before that you were going to follow your country’s codex, take me back to the Western Tribe’s capital, and hand me over to the Werewolf Council for trial?”

“Of course we’ll take you back.”

Thalia sneered, “However, Princess Helia thinks your crippled body takes up too much space. We just need to take your head back; it’s much less hassle.”

Velda trembled in fear. Ignoring the agony in her legs, she grabbed the iron bars with her hands and begged pathetically.

“No! I’m begging you! Just kill me right here! Please don’t send me to Ironwood! Take me back to the capital and kill me in front of Lucian’s tombstone!”

A monstrous hatred instantly ignited in Thalia’s eyes, and even her breathing grew heavy.

Her pheromones also carried a scorched scent.

“What gives someone like you the right to go before Lucian’s grave? Don’t think I don’t know what that filthy brain of yours is planning. You’re intentionally stalling for time, hoping that worthless mate of yours will bring people to save you, aren’t you? Stop dreaming. He’s never coming.”

“No! You misunderstand!”

Velda tried to concoct a more plausible excuse, “I am truly repentant! By the Moon Goddess every time I close my eyes, I repent. I shouldn’t have cruelly murdered the civilians of Snowdeer Town. I was wrong… I don’t ask you to spare me, I only beg you to take me back to the capital, let me personally apologize to the dead under the witness of the Moon Goddess!

“How ridiculous,” Thalia snorted coldly, her tone full of mockery.

“Our frontline intelligence system syncs with the Northern Tribe’s capital every two hours. Ulrik has stayed in his pack the entire time, he hasn’t gone anywhere. So, whether you get dragged to Ironwood Town tomorrow or escorted back to the capital, absolutely no one is coming to save you.”

Thalia leaned down slightly, approaching the iron bars, and looked directly into Velda’s despairing eyes.

“You are dead. And the civilians here are going to make you die a very, very miserable death.”

Velda went completely limp. Her crippled hands could no longer muster a single ounce of strength, and she slid weakly off the bars.
