A Kiss At Midnight (Delilah and Caelum) novel Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Caelum froze

Completely

For at least three second, he just stared at me like his brain had suddenly stopped functioning with the rest of his body.

And then his eyes widened, as his ears starts to turn red, followed by his cheeks. Then somehow his entire face, and I watched the process happen in real time.

I rested my chin against my hand, trying and failing not to smile. “Caelum..” Nothing, “Caelum,” I repeated slowly.

He blinks hard and it was clear that I had dragged him back to reality. “Hm.”

Staring at him. “You good.”

“Um…yeah.” His jaw tightens as his eyes darted away from mine, his body still flushed red.

A smirk pulled at my lips. “You looked like your soul just left your body.”

He gets to his feet a little too quickly, still avoiding my gaze. “I’ll just..” he cleared his throat awkwardly, “show you the pool.” I bit at the inside of my cheeks to stop myself from laughing. ” Come on” he muttered, already walking away.

His shoulders stiffened slightly as he walked ahead, and I followed behind him, looking entirely too pleased with myself. Trailing behind him, I followed him through the kitchen, moving down a small hallway before he pushed the back door. The late afternoon air brushes against my skin, warm with a soft breeze that carried the smell of grass and chlorine’s I wasn’t sure what I was expecting to see when he said he had a pool but it was completely decent.

The pool sat neatly in the backyard, surrounded by pale stone tiles with the water reflecting the sunlight in soft ripples. There were a few lounge chair that sat nearby beneath a large umbrella and a small flower bed lined the fence where his mother had probably planted things to make the place prettier.

It wasn’t extravagant, and it wasn’t trying too hard

Slowly I turned to look at Caelum. “Okay.”

He raises a brow. “Okay?

Folding my arms. “I’ll admit it. This looks really nice, actually.”

“My dad built most of it himself,” his tells me again, his expression shifting a bit slightly.

My gaze drifted back across the yard, and honestly, for something built because two little boys wanted a place to swim, it was surprisingly good.

Actually, no, scratch that, good wasn’t even fair

“Your dad kinda ate with this one,” he stares at me with a furrowed brow and I tried not to shaking my head at him. “God, you’re such a nerd.”

Reaches for the hem of my top, I hear him let out a quiet sound of inhale when I start pulling the crop top over my head, and I lifted my gaze just in time to watch the colour creep across the tanned cheeks.

Another smile slowly tugged at my lips. “I wasn’t kidding about trying out the pool,” I said casually, “I just didn’t have the time to grab my favorite bikini, so this one’s going to have to do.”

1 let the material slide down my arm and onto the chair beside me, the red fabric holding up my breast, making them them hotter than ever, before reaching to pull my skirt, revealing the rested.

Caelum quickly turned his head, his face still flushed and I try not to smile wider when I noticed him suddenly looking like he had forgotten how to act normally.

“I don’t mind you looking,” I purred out softly, taking a step closer to him and bringing his attention back to me. “You more than welcome to look all you want.”

My lips curved up to a smirk as turned toward the pool. The stone beneath my feet was still warm from the afternoon suni I waked to the edge,, dipping my toes into the water first.

It was a bit cold, not freezing, but enough to make me pull a face

Biting at the wall of my lips, I carefully stepped down the first step, then the second, the water slowly rising around my legs before settling around my waist,, making a shiver run through me briefly, before I adjusted.

I run my wet hands through my hair, pushing it back as the water soaked through the natural waves, darker strands clinging lightly against my shoulders.

Glancing back slightly over my shoulder, I found him still standing by the poolside, linearity near the edge like he wasn’t fully sure whether he wanted to get in or keep watching from there.

The backyard was quiet around us, tucked away enough that the rest of the world felt far off, with just the sound of water ripping sofly and the breeze moving through the trees.

“Come on, get in,” I called, lazily dragging my fingers through the water,” I’m not swimming by myself,” his eyes lifted toward me, lingering for a swing, and I could see the internal debate happening.

My lips curved up to the side as I tilted my head, adding softly. “Please..” something shifts across his face almost instantly, and I had to bite back a smile.

Oh

That did it

Thought he stayed in his shirt, Caelum enters the pool in his shorts, the water begins to make his shirt tighten and cling to his skin, showing his strong chest.

He was clearly more ripped than most of the boys in the football teams at school, which was insane, considering he hadn’t joined any sport team.

My gaze run over his wet shirt now giving me the glimpse of and underneath its.

Oh, what I would give to see underneath his shirt right now

I moved over to his side, watching him pay attention to the water droplets gliding their way down my chest, disappearing into the my bra, his face flushes as he looks away shifting slightly from where he was resting at the edge of the oool.

Without giving him any change to think, I swim over to where he was, my body literally on top of his, my arms wrapped around his neck, while his hanged by the side unsure of where to put them.

“Can I ask you something?” Our gaze locked, and he doesn’t giving any form of objection, waiting for me to continue. “Why haven’t you really done..” I paused, I paused, “any of this before.”

I moved slightly, feeling his little man, which was anything but little, poking at my waist and his breathing began to pick up quicker the longer we looked into each others eyes.

He breaks the contact, looking away first, the blush creeping up his cheeks again. “I never really had guy friends growing up,”

he admits after a moment, “not close ones.” His gaze then drifted down at the water, “and my dad wasn’t around much for a long time.”

“Because of work?” I asked. He looks at me again, getting a shrug. “The pictures.”

His gaze narrows slightly. “So you were snooping.”
