Landon shifted awkwardly, the guilt was eating him alive.

“honestly.” I continued, “you’re making this harder than it already is by doubting every little thing I do,” I placed a hand against my chest.”know that this is already taking a massive hit to my dignity.”

He still looked like he didn’t know what to make of me. Honestly, neither did I.

I released Sophie’s hands, taking a small step back. “I wish you both the best,” gesturing between them, “the love life you’ve” got going on.” A smile touched my lips, “may it blossom and sparkle even more.”

For a moment, nobody spoke, then Sophie nodded slowly. “Thank you,” the surprise in her voice almost made me laugh.

I glanced over my shoulder, finding Kaia exactly where I’d left her, leaning against a locker. One arm folded across her chest. the other holding my lollipop, looking deeply concerned.

I fought back a grin, turning back toward Landon and Sophie. “I should go.” I pointed toward Kaia, “a ouldn’t want to keep her waiting.” neither of them responded as they simply stared, still looking confused.

Offering one final smile. I turned around and walked away and I could practically feel their eyes burning holes into my back.

The second I reached Kaia, she straightened, “what the hell was that?” She asked, shaving my lollipop back in her mouth.

“Making amends.”

She stared as me for a second. “Making amends.”

I nodded. “Yep.”

“With Sophie?”

She sounded genuinely baffled while I twirled a strand of hair around my finger. “Yeah.”

She blinked, looking at me like I’d suddenly grown a second head. “Delilah.”

“Hm?”

“What are you doing?” I placed a hand against my chest

“Being mature.”

“You’re terrifying.”

“Thank you.”

“No, seriously,” she pointed at me, “that’s was creepy.” I stared at her for a second or two, and my gaze soften, yet it did nothing to her.

“You hate Sophie.”.

“I don’t hate Sophie.”

“You absolutely hate Sophie.”

“That’s a strong word.”

She deadpanned “You once called her a bargain bin Disney princess.”

That was so things of the past I don’t want any drama any more,” she groaned as I smiled sweetly. “I’m choosing to be the Jagger person

“Is this really what it’s come to?” for a split second, uncertainty crossed his face, but pressed on, “even if we’re not together anymore.. myvoice softened, “didn’t we used to be friends?”

The question hung between us, I watched the guilt appear instantly. A flash, brief, but it was there. Landon swallowed, his expression faltered, and for one dangerous second, he almost reached for me. His hand lifted slightly, S though instinct had taken over, a part of him still wanted to comfort me.

Then..

“Landon,” Sophie’s voice cut through the moment, though soft, there was a firmness to it.

His hand immediately dropped as he turned toward her, just like that, the moment shattered. She smiled up at him warmly. the perfect girlfriend painting the perfect picture.

“Let’s hear what she has to say, babe.”

I glanced between them, smiling softly as I watched the two lovebird, the way they looked at each other, standing so close They were truly a perfect fit.

The smile remained on my face, streching more and more, and maybe apparently, a bit too much, because suddenly both of them were staring at me with matching expressions that practically screamed ‘are you okay’

I toned down the smile, just a little, then I turned toward Sophie, and before either of them could react, I reached forward, grabbing both her hands.

Her eyebrows shot upward while Landon looked ready to intervene.

“I wanted to apologize,” the both of them froze, not saying a word, so I pushed for it. “I know things haven’t exactly been great between us.”

Sophie’s eyes narrowed slightly as I continued, “I shouldn’t have tried to come between you two, and shouldn’t have caused problems,” her expression remained unreadable. “I was wrong.”

Now she looked genuinely suspicious, as though she was trying to figure out if I meant it.

Understandably so

Honestly, if our roles were reversed, I would probably be suspicious too.

I wasn’t even sure how to explain it myself, but lately, everything felt exhausting. From the fighting, to the dramac and the constant need to prove something.

At some point, I had simply gotten tired of carrying things that didn’t matter anymore.

Squeezing her hands, I carried on speaking. “You both have something beautiful.”

There, a tiny twitch, almost invisible, but I caught it as she glanced at Landon, then back at me. Her eyes practically screamed, ‘what’s your angle?”

Again, it was fair that she would think this way, I haven’t been um..nice.

Landon on the other hand, looked equally as confused as he was since I walked toward them.

“What changed?” his voice was cautious, filled with suspicion, as if he was waiting for a trap to spring, and beside him, Sophie raised an eyebrow. A look that said..yeah, I would like to know too.

I smiled softly instead. “Nothing changed,” the words came easier than I expected, “I just realized some things aren’t worth holding onto and some mistakes need to be fixed.” I lowered my gaze. “which is why I swallowed my pride and came here.”

“If I see Elias smiling one more time, I’m going to commit a crime,” I popped the lollipop back into my mouth, beside me, Kaja continued her rant, completely oblivious to the fact that I had stopped listening approximately three minutes ago.

She had been talking about him, nearly through lunch break and how he was getting on her last nerve, which wasn’t a new thing. Not to add to the fact that Jace has also been a bit MIA, and I wondered what he was up to lately.

But that was besides the point

Nope, not at this very moment

“He beat me by one point. Delilah. One Single Point,” she held up a finger, “do you know how insulting that is?”

I hummed absentmindedly, my eyes were focused elsewhere, specifically on a certain couple standing halfway down the hallway.

“They handed back the physics test today and that idiot had the audacity to look smug about it,” another lick of my lollipop. “they should honestly investigate him.”

My head tilted slightly, there they were, Landon and Sophie. Smiling, laughing, looking completely content with each others presence. My head tilted slightly, watching the two of them look happy, the kind of happiness that makes you wonder if they were living in a completely different universe from everyone else.

Sophie was saying something, while Landon looked at her as if she was the only person in the hallway. Honestly, it was almost impressive.

A small smile tugged at my lips as the lollipop slipped from my mouth and without taking my eyes off them, I shoved the stick into Kaia’s mouth.

“Just fuck him already”

“What..” I was already moving, my heels clicked against the polished floor as I stalked toward them. “Delilah!” Kaia’s voice echoed down the hallway, “where are you going?”

I glanced over my shoulder, giving her what could only be described as an innocent smile, the kind that had gotten me out of trouble countless times, and then faced forward again as I kept walking.

Landon was the first to spot me, and I watched as his smile disappear, his body visibly stiffened. Sophie noticed immediately, her attention shifted from him to me, the moment our eyes met, I saw it, the subtle clench of her jaw.

The tiny tightening around her eyes, gone almost instantly, replaced by a carefully crafted innocent expression. If I hadn’t been looking for it, I would have missed it.

I stopped directly in front of them, before I could say a word, Landon stepped forward, positioning himself between Sophie and me, all protective and defensive as if I was some kind of threat.

Won’t blame him though.

“What do you want?” his voice was harsh, cold, nothing like the way he used to speak to me and if was taking some time getting use to it.

I tried not to let it show, Instead, I offered him a small smile, one that felt strangely nervous.

“Can I talk to Sophie?” his jaw tightened as his expression remained the same.

“Whatever you have to say, say it to me,” sighed, a sad little sound, then slowly lifted my gaze to his as the hurt to seep into my expression.

I don’t bother commenting on what she said, my gaze drifted past her shoulder, toward the far end of the hallway and aimmediately stopped. Caelum.

He was standing near the library entrance, watching me, and probably the entire scene.

Well

That was interesting

My fingers absentmindedly twirled a strand of hair, our eyes locked, neither of us looked away. I let my gaze travel down his body, taking in the ridiculously oversized uniform. The sweater, the slacks.
