Chapter 79
Caelum’s POV

I stepped out of the bathroom with a towel draped around my shoulders as I rubbed the last traces of water from my hair, every muscle in my body still protested.
Delilah had left the bathroom a few minutes before I did, giving me the chance to clean up in peace, and no, there hadn’t been any foreplay.
At least, not the kind I’d been hoping for
Pulling on the clothes Kaia had lent me, I adjusted the unfamiliar hoodie before glancing at myself in the mirror. It would have to do.
Walking back into the hallway. I quietly shut the bedroom door behind me, and was instantly welcomed with silence a contrast to how it had been last might. Pausing for a second, my ears perk as I listened for any sound, and was welcomed with nothing.
“Delilah?” I called.
“Right here!” her voice drifted through the house, followed by the faint sound of music.
I turned toward it, following the melody until it led me into the kitchen, “Hey,” I greeted as I stepped inside, instinctively looking around.
There was no one else but her as she stood by the kitchen island, swaying ever so slightly to the music playing from her phone.
She looked over her shoulder and smirked, “Hey,” her eyes swept over me before dropping lower, “wereyou able to handle it?” she asked and I slowly followed her gaze, straight to the unmistakable outline beneath my pants.
Heat rushed to my face as she raised a brow, her smirk widening. “I guess not.”
I cleared my throat, welling myself not to turn red by her stare and with desperate to change the subject, I glanced around the kitchen again. “Where are Kaia and Elias?”
“Um,” she took another sip before answering casually, “they left.”
My brows knit together. “They..left?”
“Elias had a few things he needed to take care of this morning. Same with Kaia,” She shrugs, “also, I asked Kaia if I could stay behind for a couple of hours, and she was fine with it.”
“oh,” the word left my mouth before I could think of anything else to say as my hand instinctively found the back of my neck, rubbing at it as an uncomfortable thought wormed its way into my head.
Did they know, did Kaia and Elias know what had happened between us last night? It wasn’t like we had been discrete.
The possibility alone was enough to make heat creep up my neck
my gaze slowly lifted to Delilah to find her already looking at me, and there was that knowing smirk again, almost as if she could read every embarrassing thought running through my head without me saying a single word.
Yet again, my face betrayed me immediately, growing warmer by the second.
It was frustrating..how easily she affected me, one smile, one look and suddenly I forgot how to function like a normal human being.

I gulped, my lips parted, trying to come up with something, anything, to steer my thoughts elsewhere, but before I could get a word out, the doorbell echoed through the quiet cabin
Her smile widened. “Ah,” she said, hopping down from the stool, “that must be our breakfast,” then brushes past me with an easy smile before disappearing toward the front door.
A second later, I heard it open, followed by muffled voices drifted through the hallway,, then the rustling of paper bags and a quiet exchange of thanks.
Then the door clicked shut again as I stayed where I was, staring absently at the kitchen floor. There was something twisting around inside my chest,, something unfamiliar, that I couldn’t quite name.
What exactly was I feeling? Happiness?.. nervousness?..relief?.. fear? maybe all of them at once.
whatever it was, it only seemed to grow stronger every time I was around her.
A moment later, i heard her footsteps returning and she walked into the kitchen carrying two paper bags and a cardboard drink holder. nudging the door shut with her hip.
“Hope you don’t mind having pizza for breakfast,” she said with an amused smile, “It was the closest place that delivered this early”
I couldn’t help smiling. “II don’t mind.”
“Good,” she replied, setting the large pizza box on the kitchen island before placing two cups of strawberry banana smoothie beside it. “because I wasn’t about to cook.”
A laugh escaped me this time, “I wouldn’t expect you to.”
She pointed a finger at me. “Smart answer.” I chuckled as she lifted the lid of the pizza box and the smell of melted cheese with freshly baked dough immediately filled the room.
She slid onto one of the stools, and I took the one beside her, for a brief moment, neither of us spoke. We each reached for a slice at the same time, our fingers nearly brushed, then she turned to look at me with me doing the same.
And, almost simultaneously, we smiled before taking our own slices, the silence between us wasn’t awkward, If anything..it was comfortable.
The kind that didn’t need to be filled
I took a bite, my gaze drifting absentmindedly toward the window as the morning sunlight spilled across the countertop, and out of the corner of my eye, i caught Delilah reaching for her smoothie.
She lifted the cup to her lips, taking a slow sip before lowering it again, a tiny drop lingered at the corner of her mouth. without thinking, she caught it with the tip of her tongue, and without realising it, i drew in a quiet breath.
I want to feel her on top of me again… I shut my eyes, only she can make me have these thoughts.
Seriously, Caelum, get it together.
She hadn’t even looked at me, yet somehow, the corner of her mouth slowly curled upward. A knowing little smirk resting there and somehow she knew exactly what had caught my attention.
Heat crept into my face for what felt like the hundredth time that morning as I looked away, suddenly finding the half eaten slice of pizza in my hand incredibly fascinating.
Beside me: I heard the faintest hint of a chuckle, she was definitely enjoying this far more than she should.
The moment of quiet between us didn’t last long, my phone suddenly vibrated against the countertop, the ringtone

Glancing down at the screen, Mom

Delilah looked up from her slice of pizza, one brow lifting in silent question and I gave her a small smile before sliding off the stool. “My mom,” she nodded in understanding and waved a hand, silently telling me to go ahead.
I walked a few steps away toward the sink before answering, “Hi, Mom.”
“Morning, sweetheart,” she greeted warmly, “how was your sleepover study group?”
“It was good.”
“No problems?”
I smiled faintly. “No.”
“I’m glad.” she said, “I know it was your first sleepover with classmates and wanted you to have fun, even if it was just a study
session.”
“It was fine,” I replied honestly. “I.. had fun.”
More fun than you could possibly imagine, the thought flashed through my mind, and I had to bite back a smile.
“What was that?” my mother asked.
“Hm..” I rubbed the back of my neck, suddenly feeling self conscious, “I guess it was just nice.”
“I’m happy to hear that,” there was a brief pause before she asked casually. “Delilah there?”
My heart skipped. “Delilah?”
“Yes.”
I frowned slightly. “She wasn’t part of the study group, so.. why would she be there?” there was a beat of silence on the other
end.
“Oh,” she laughed lightly, “right, I don’t know why I asked that,” frowning to myself at how random this had been
Why would she ask about Delilah of all people, before I could think too much about it, she spoke again. “Well, don’t rush home, take your time and enjoy the rest of your morning.”
“I will.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too, Mom.”
“Kisses.”
A small tint settled on my face. “Kisses,” the call ended, and I lowered my phone slowly, still staring at the dark screen.
I couldn’t help wondering, why had she asked about Delilah?
Shipping my phone into my pocket and turned around, I barely had time to register what was happening when a body launched itself at me
Whoa
sucking in a breath when I felt her perfectly toned legs wrap around my waist and pull me into her.

Then Instinct took over as I catch myself with both of my hands on either side of her thighs and she laughed, her arms loosely settling around my shoulders.
Her sweet lips connect to mine, and she raises her hand to the nape of my neck, making the kiss deeper. I steady myself by placing my right hand on her hip causing her to moan in my mouth as I brush over the area which I had been squeezing last night.
My eyes closes as I get lost in the feeling of her lips, how they know exactly what to do to get me to forget everything and everyone. She smiles against my lips and bites on my lower lip a little before pulling away.
I want to kiss her again and she knows it. She’s causing me a lot of trouble right now.
“So,” she said, tilting her head with a grin, “was that your mom checking up on you?”
I couldn’t help smiling back, “Yeah.”
“I figured,” she eyes searched mine, “you know, I never actually asked.”
“Asked what?”
“What excuse you gave your parents for staying out all night.”
The smile I’d been wearing faltered almost instantly and the heat crept into my cheeks. “Oh…”
She noticed immediately, “Oh?” she echoed, amusement dancing in her eyes.
“1..” I rubbed the back of my neck awkwardly, “I just told them it was…a sleepover study group.
Her lips slowly curled upward. “A sleepover study group?”
I nodded sheepishly. “It wasn’t… entirely a lie.” y
She stared at me for a second, then a laugh burst out of her. It was bright, contagious, and completely unapologetic. “So,” she teased, poking my chest with one finger, “you’re a liar.”
“I’m not a liar.”
“Mmhmm.”
“I just.. left out a few details.”
“Oh?” she said, trying and failing to hide another smile, “that’s exactly what a liar would say.”
I let out a quiet groan. “Delilah..”
She laughed again, her eyes softening. “You know,” she said thoughtfully, “I think I’m a terrible influence on you.”
Raising a brow. “You think?”
She nodded with exaggerated seriousness. “I’ve corrupted Crestmont Prep’s sweetest boy,” she leaned in just enough for her voice to drop into a playful whisper. “Mi pequeño pecador.”
My breath caught, knowing exactly what those words meant.
