“And when the police finally broke the door down..” Elias lowered his voice, “they found the family sitting around the dinner table.” He pauses for effect, “every single one of them smiling.”

Silence settled in the room for a second or two, and then..

“Oh come on.”

“That’s ass.”

“Boooo..”

I snorted while Kaia throws a pillow at him which he caught against his chest.

After we had settled in, the living room was turned into an absolute chaos. From left over pizzas to empty bottle of sparkling grape juice that Kaia had dramatically insist on calling wine, to every pillow and blanket we could find, dragged to the living room to make a little fortress.

The result an absolute mess

“What,” Elias protested.

Staring blankly at him, I say. “That was the whackest horror story I’ve ever heard.”

He scoffs at this, “like you can do better.”

“Um..yeah.” My response comes in a duh tone, making him fold his arms.

“Alright then Miss Bug Talk, let’s hear yours.”

I shrugged like it was nothing. “It starts off with a family of four,” at this point everyone had quiet down, “found dead inside their house with no signs of forced entry, fingerprint or murdur weapon.

Reaching for another slice of pizza, “The police couldn’t figure out how they died, right untill the autopsy,” I took a bite before continuing. “And they found out all four of them had dirt in their lungs.”

The room stayed quiet, “it was then that coroner realized, they’d all been buried alive first.” My gaze drifted round at everyone,” then the killer dug them up, just to leave them at their dining table.”

Silence blanketed the room for a second. “Holy shit,” Kaia muttered.

Elias happens to look mildly traumatized as he slowly lowered his slice of pizza, then stared at me. “what the fuck is wrong with you?”

I simply took another bite of my pizza, “You said horror,” shrugging, completely unbothered. “I delivered.”

Kaia then lets out a long sigh, as she add. “I get that we’re friends..” she says carefully, “but sometimes I genuinely wonders what the hell goes on inside your head to be this calm.” There was no bite to her words

Letting out a scoff. “My head happens to be perfectly fine.”

“Mmhmm,” she doesn’t sound convinced, not in the slightest. Then she turns towards Caelum. “Are you sure you can handle her?”

His eyes instantly found mine, and for a second their was something warm In his gaze, also mixed with something hesistant. And this made my stomach tightens.

I gulped softly. “Why are you asking him that?” My voice comes out slightly hurried as I tore my gaze from his, and Kaia raised a brow, looking between us.

My eyes rested on hers as I shot her a look that says not to push it, and thankfully she was smart enough to understand that.

The silence settled between us again, till it was broken by the sound of a single clap, coming from Jace. “Alright,” he said, “how about we do something else instead of telling random horror stories?”

He looked around at us, “what do you guys want to do?”

“Charades?” Elias suggested.

Jace made a face. “Boring.”

“Would You Rather?” Caelum offered.

“We’ll be done in five minutes,” I pointed out.

A thoughtful silence settled over the room, then Kaia suddenly snapped her fingers, “Ooh! Truth or Dare.”

Elias grinned immediately. “Now we’re talking.”

Jace nodded. “I’m down.”

Caelum gave a small shrug. “I don’t mind.”

Four pairs of eyes landed on me and a slow smile tugged at my lips. “Truth or dare it is.”

Kaia rubbed her hands together mischievously, “And if someone refuses to answer a truth or complete a dare,” she reached over and held up the bottle sitting on the floor, “they drink.”

Elias pointed at the bottle. “Deal.”

Jace chuckled. “I have a feeling this is going to end badly.”

“Oh,” she said with a grin, setting the bottle back down between us, “that’s exactly the point.”

Then she grabs an empty bottle from the middle of the blanket fort and placed it on the floor. “Alright,” she said, rubbing her hands together, “let’s see who gets sacrificed first.”

With a dramatic flourish, she spun it and the bottle whirled around the blankets, slowing, slowing..before stopping directly in front of me.

A chorus of “Ooohs” immediately followed

:

I looked around at their smug faces before sighing dramatically. “Truth or dare?”

“Dare,” I answered without hesitation.

Elias grinned like he had been waiting for that answer. “I dare you to go outside and scream, ‘I’m in love with pineapple on pizza..”

I stared at him, “that’s your crazy dare.”

He shrugs. “Would you prefer something more crazier, I’ve got a list. ”

Rolling my eyes before climbing to my feet. “You’re ridiculous,” I muttered, then make my way over to the front door, swinging it open, stepping onto the porch.

Taking a deep breath, I yelled at the top of my lungs, “I’M IN LOVE WITH PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA..” my voice echoing through the quiet neighborhood, and the only response was a dog barking somewhere in a distance.

Then I turned around, making my way back inside like nothing had happened. “There.”

Kaia burst into laughter. “I cannot believe you actually did it.”

“I said dare.”

Elias nodded in approval, “I respect the commitment.”

Plopping back onto my spot and picked up the bottle. “My turn,” I gave it a hard spin, round and round it went before slowing to a stop, the neck pointed directly at Elias.

He looked at it before groaning. “Damn it,” then he looked at me, ” I can’t believe it landed on me right after you.”

I snorted. “There’s no getting out of it.”

His eyes narrowed playfully. “Truth.”

Scoffing softly. “Look at you, chickening out.”

His lips curls up into a grin, then proceds to stick his tongue out at me. Kaia shakes her head at this while reaching into the snack bowl.

“Children,” she muttered.

Since the other end of the bottle was pointing toward Caelum, everyone’s attention shifted to him.

His brow furrowed. “Uh..” he looked thoughtful for a moment, his gaze briefly drifting to Kaia before flickering toward me, then he looked back at Elias, “Is there someone you’re interested in?”

The room fell noticeably quiet, and out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Kaia sit up a little straighter, her

ears had practically perked up.

she was definitely curious

A smirk tugged at my lips. “Nice one,” I folded my arms. “Well?” Elias stared down at the bottle instead of answering and I raised an eyebrow, “what happened? I thought you picked truth.”

He glanced at me and scoffed. “I’m thinking.”

“Or chickening out.”

He rolled his eyes. “Shut up,” then lets out a long sigh, “yeah.” The single word barely left his mouth before he reached for his drink and took a long gulp.

Leaning forward with a grin. “So,” I drawled, “is the person in this room?”

For the briefest second, his eyes flickered toward Kaia who seemed to have frozen up in her spot. It was was subtle, barely noticeable, but I caught the faint flush creeping onto her cheeks before she quickly busied herself with a handful of chips.

Then, just as quickly, Elias was grinning again. “That’s two questions.”

Frowning slightly. “Hey..”

“Nope,” he interrupted, pointing at me, “one question only, those are the rules.”

Rolling my eyes. “Whatever.”

Still smiling, he reached forward and spun the bottle and it twirled around the middle of our little blanket fort before gradually slowing.

The neck stopped in front of Jace, he looked down at it. “Truth.”
