I turn around to the sound of her tempting voice and gulp subtle when I see her, my eyes help themselves, traveling from her face down her to her top which was slightly down, giving me a perfect view of her cleavage.
It’s really hot in this room right now
Adjusting the collar of my shirt, feeling my face heat up and the heat of the room take over my body especially when she leans over to me.
Lowering my gaze to the test paper in front of me, I willed myself to focus, I take in the sight of a bold 80 circled at the top in red ink.
“Um..,” I start off, clearing my throat while she has an amused glimmer in her eyes, “you’ve improved a lot.” This time I couldn’t stop the smile that found its way onto my face.
She leans in further, smug grin on her face. “Well,” she shrugged, “I did have a pretty great teacher.”
A quiet laugh escaped me. “I guess you did,” I looked back over her answers, reading through the corrections she had made.
Compared to where she’d started, It wasn’t even close. “You’ve come really far,” out of the corner of my eye, I caught the way her lips curled ever so slightly.
She tried to hide it and act like my words hadn’t affected her, but I noticed, how happed she looked. The realization made me bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from smiling any wider.
Especially when she looked ridiculously cute
I forced my attention back to the paper, skimming over the last few questions, every answer was neat and wellthought out and amost all of them were correct.
Setting the sheet down. “I guess that’s everything for today.”
She smiled. “So,” I looked up, “don’t I deserve a gift?”
Letting out a laugh. “I suppose you do, what do you want?”
She tilted her head thoughtfully, tapping a finger against her chin. “Hmm..I’m not sure yet, I’ll have to think about it thoroughly.”
Another laugh escaped me. “Cariño,” the Spanish word slipped out before I even thought about it and a faint pink that immediately dusted her cheeks made my heart skip.
She looked away for a second, pretending to be interested in the notebook lying on the desk. I smiled to

myself, she was getting better at Spanish too, a few months ago she would’ve stared at me in confusion, now she knew exactly what I had called her.
And somehow, watching her understand made me happier than it probably should have.
Before I could say anything else, she reached forward and snapped the book shut, the sound makes me frown, as she leans across the table, resting her elbows on it.
“Don’t you think it’s time we talk about what happened yesterday?”
I gulped at this, knowing this was coming. Honestly, I had been trying to avoid it, not because I didn’t want to talk about it, because I didn’t know how.
Yesterday hadn’t exactly been the right time either, everything had revolved around Jace and his mother. But now? there wasn’t really any escaping it.
I sighed. “I guess we do.”
Delilah leaned back slightly, folding her arms. “Good,” she stared directly at me, “so spill.”
I knew exactly what she meant, unfortunately, my mouth decided to betray me. “Spill what?”
She gave me a look. “The look on your face yesterday,” my stomach tightened, “the whole ‘we’re so far apart’ thing.”
Rubbing the back of my neck, right, that, another sigh escaped me.
For a second, neither of us spoke, then Delilah frowned. “Wait,” something flashed across her face, hurt. “Are you judging me because my family has money?”
My eyes widened. “What? No.”
“Then what was that?”
I immediately shook my head. “No, Delilah. That’s not what I meant.”
“Then explain it.”
I looked down at my hands, trying to find the right words. “It’s just..” I laughed weakly, “sometimes I think it’s insane that you even spend time with me.”
Her brows knitted together and I continued before she could interrupt. “You can have anything you want, grew up completely different from me,” I gestured vaguely, “your family, your house, your life..and then there’s me.”
My laugh came out hollow. “Honestly, I understood why you chose Landon.”
The second the words left my mouth, I knew I’d screwed up as she stared at me then sat up straighter. “Oh my God, I immediately regretted everything, “Landon is a douche.”
“Delilah..”

“No,” she pointed at me, “no, because what the hell is that supposed to mean?” I opened my mouth, closed it, just to open it again, but nothing came out, “you think I picked Landon because he had money?”
“I didn’t say..”
“That’s exactly what you’re implying,” her frustration wasn’t loud, If anything, that somehow made it worse, “do you know how stupid that sounds? You know what’s funny?” her laugh held no humor, “all that money didn’t stop my family from abandoning me.”
My chest tightened when shs looked away. “It didn’t make them stay.”
The room fell quiet. “And if we’re being honest, wealth hasn’t exactly done much for me,” I stared at her, feeling smaller with every second. “You know me better than that, you know I don’t care about that stuff.”
I did know and that’s what made this worse. Sighing. “You’re right,” she crossed her arms, forcing myself to meet her eyes. “The truth is, for the first time, I realized just how different our worlds are. I think it scared
me.”
She remained silent, so I kept going. “I wasn’t trying to insult you or judge you. I guess you can say I was insecure,” the word tasted bitter but it was true.
“I kept thinking that sooner or later you’d realize there are people who make more sense for you and I guess I hated that thought.”
The silence stretched, then finally, “Caelum,” I looked up, her expression had softened completely. “Landon doesn’t hold a candle to you.” My heart stopped as she rolled her eyes, “actually, scratch that. He doesn’t even make the list.”
A small smile tugged at her lips and despite everything, a laugh escaped me.
Delilah held my gaze for another moment before reaching across the table and gently placing her hand over mine. “I need you to stop thinking about everything else,” her thumb brushed lightly over my knuckles, “I just want you to focus on me and us, on what we have now. Nothing else, just the two of us.”
I found myself nodding before I even realized it. “Okay, I can do that,” I lowered my eyes for a second before looking back at her. “I’m really sorry, Delilah, I shouldn’t have assumed those things, I I let my own insecurities get in the way and never wanted to hurt you.”
“I know,” she smiled, “and besides..” her lips curved into a teasing grin. “You’re way too cute for me to stay mad at.” Then, ever so slowly, her eyes drifted downward before lifting back to mine, a knowing smile playing on her lips. “Too bad..”
I frowned slightly as her alluring eyes skim down to my pants. “I was going to help give you the release you wanted,” she tilted her head innocently. “But it looks like this conversation already did the trick.”
For a second, I didn’t understand, then realization hit me as heat rushed straight to my face. Her smile only widened, she hadn’t touched me yet somehow she had managed to leave me completely flustered all over again.
It amazed me how quickly she could go from having a serious conversation to leaving me unable to form a coherent sentence.
