It was crazy how my thighs were sore and my hips felt weak, despite the fact that this wasn’t first time having sex. And it kindof reminded me of what my first time was, even though I could barley remember who the guy
was.
“Are you paying any attention, whatsoever, Delilah?” my mother says, snapping me out of my thoughts as I turned to look at him and then my father who was sitting right beside him.
It’s been a day since they were back and I could feel the headache begin to form. I wasn’t sure what it was they wanted, or what it was they were talking about, honestly didn’t give a damn.
But I was a bit, just a tiny bit surprised that they ask we go out for dinner, I doubt they had been home, and were staying in a hotel close to the airport, for reasons I had no clue or wanted to know.
“Not surprise,” my mother voice out as she rolled her eyes, while my father placed a hand on hers that was on the table, tapping on it lightly.
“Lets not get all agitated, it’s been a month since we last saw each other. I’m sure she had been busy with other things, making it hard to return our calls. The bottom line is that she is fine.” my father says, then turn to look at me with a smile.
“On the other hand, we’ve gotten a report from the school and there have been some improvement in your performance recently. Which is enough for us to know that you have been putting much effort.”
“That’s if we can call it that.”
I turned to look at my mother,” what exactly is that supposed to mean?”
She lifted her wine glass with practiced elegance before setting it back down. “You know exactly what I mean. who’s to say you haven’t been paying your way through school?” she shrugged, “or doing something else to get your grades up.”
The words landed like a slap and I slowly turned to my father. “Did you hear that?”
He pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a tired sigh before looking at my mother. “Love,” his voice carried a quiet warning, “the school already informed us she’s been receiving tutoring.”
My mother let out a small, humorless laugh. “Right,” then leaned back in her chair. “If that’s the story she’s going with,” I clenched my jaw, “the final exams are what will determine whether she’s actually improved.” Her gaze settled on me, cool and unwavering, “so let’s hope you don’t ruin everything by doing something stupid, reckless, or careless.”
There they were, her favorite three words. It was almost impressive how she’d managed to use them to describe me for as long as I could remember.
Before either of us could say another word, my father cleared his throat. “Enough,” his eyes moved between the two of us, “can we please have one peaceful dinner? Just for tonight, let’s put our differences aside.”
Silence settled over the table as I looked down at my plate, absentmindedly pushing my food around with my fork, completely losing my appetite.

“I’ll be right back,” neither of them stopped me as I pushed my chair back and headed toward the restroom. The second the door swung shut behind me, the noise of the restaurant faded.
I walked straight to the sink, turned on the faucet, and let the cold water run over my hands as I lift my head, meeting my own reflection in the mirror.
Despite how flawless I looked, I still had a bit of tirdness in my eyes. Letting out a long sigh, “let’s just get through this fucking hell.”
After splashing a little water onto my face, I dried my hands and made my way back outside. The rest of dinner dragged on, conversations came and went, mostly between my parents, while I answered only when absolutely necessary.
Every now and then my mother threw another disapproving glance my way while Mr father did his best to keep the peace. I counted down the minutes until it was over and by the time the bill was paid, I couldn’t get out of the restaurant fast enough.
The cool evening air hit my face as we stepped outside, a cab waited by the curb and I headed straight toward it.
“Delilah,” I stopped at the sound of my father’s voice and looked back, “where are you going?”
“I’m staying at Kaia’s tonight.”
My mother immediately frowned. “Absolutely..”
“Love,” my father gently interrupted before she could continue, then he looked back at me, “Just send me a message when you get to Kaia’s place.”
I didn’t bother responding as my mother looked anything but pleased. My father rested a hand against her back, guidi bc her toward their waiting car.
She muttered something under her breath that I couldn’t be bothered to hear, honestly, I didn’t give a damn and instead opened the cab door, climbed inside, and finally felt like I could breathe again.
The second I settled into the backseat of the cab, I pulled out my phone, my thumb instinctively moved toward Kaia’s contact Instead, my eyes landed on another name.
Caelum.
A small smile found its way onto my face before I could stop it. ‘Are you asleep?’
The reply came almost instantly.’ It’s eight o’clock, Delilah’ a second message followed. ‘Some people are only just deciding what to have for dinner’
I couldn’t help but laugh, Smarty-ass. Without thinking, my fingers moved across the screen. ‘Can I come over?’
The moment I hit send, my eyes widened. What the hell? “What are you doing?” I muttered to myself and hurried to type another message.

Before I could send it, my phone buzzed. Caelum: Sure.
That had been easy
Biting the inside of my cheek, I typed again. Delilah: What about your parents?

His reply came a few seconds later.’ My Dad’s away on a business trip and my mom is working the late shift. She won’t be back until around midnight.’
I stared at the messages for a moment before smiling to myself. ‘Fine, I’m on my way!

About twenty minutes later, the cab pulled up outside his house. I paid the driver and made my way to the front door, lifting my hand to knock.
It barely took a few seconds before the door swung open. “Hey,” my words caught in my throat when I found Caelum standing in the doorway, slightly flushed, dressed in a fitted T-shirt and a pair of shorts.
His hair was damp around the edges, as though he’d just finished working out and for one very embarrassing second, my brain forgot how to function.
Get it together, Delilah.
His brows lifted slightly. “You okay?”
I cleared my throat. “Yeah,” I definitely wasn’t.
Stepping aside, he smiled. “Come in,” I slipped past him, trying very hard not to think about how unfairly good he looked. He closed the door behind us before leading me farther into the house.
We walked up the stair, stopping outside his bedroom as he pushed the door open, rubbing the back of his neck. “Uh..” he gave me an apologetic smile, “you’re going to have to excuse the equipment.”
