Her gaze drops down to it, smoothing out the imaginary wrinkles from the baby blue gown for what seems like the tenth time in a span of minute.

She had on was cute gown that hugged her waist before flowing into a gentle flare skirt that ended just below her knees. It was simple enough to be elegant, but sweet enough to suit her perfectly.

“Ugh..i can’t help it,” she groans, tugging lightly at the fabric again. “I’m nervous.”

“Yeah, i can see that”

Her head shoots up, giving me a glare that didn’t bite, “This isn’t funny, Di.”

Taking a step closer, my hands rested on her shoulders. “Hey,” her gaze meets mine again, “it’s going to be okay, Caelum and i will be just right around the corner the entire time, and will keep an eye on you without getting in the way.”

She searches my face for a moment before giving me a small nod, then takes on a slow steady breath, letting it out through her nose as though trying to calm the storm inside her.

“Okay,” she whispers slowly, then turns toward Caelum as she says sincerely, “thank you for coming even though you really didn’t have to.”

His gaze shift to me before he responded, and for a heartbeat it felt like the work had fallen away as those beautiful emerald eyes settled on mine with so much intensity that it stole the air from my lungs.

There was somethint unspoken in them, one that warm and familiar, yet dangerously easy to get lost in

The corner of his lips lifted in a faint smile, one meant only for me, before turning to face Kaia. “Its nothing,” he said with an easy shrug, “besides we’re friend.”

she offers us a small grateful smile and I returned it. “And remember,” i said, pointing toward the far corner of the theater lobby, it was partially hidden behind a large promotional display, “We’ll be right over there, you’ll still be able to see us if you need to, and we’ll be able to keep an eye on you.”

She followed my finger with her gaze before taking another deep breath. “Okay,” she said, giving a small nod.

Without giving myself a chance to overthink it, i reached for Caelum’s hand, tugging him toward the opposite side of the theater, “Come on.”

We slipped behind the corner i had pointed out, close enough to watch without making our presence obvious. from where we stood, i could still get a better view of her.

She remains on the same spot near the entrance, shifting her weight from one foot to the other, tapping her heels anxiously against the floor with every passing seconds.

“She freaking nervous.” i muttered out, “the last time I saw her like this had been during her drivers license test and looked like she was about to pass out.”

My gaze lingered on her for another moment. “You think she’s going to be okay?” when i turned to Caelum, i realized he hadn’t answered.

He wasn’t even looking at her, his attention was fixed on our hands. I followed his gaze realising my fingers were still wrapped around his.

“Oh,” heat crept into my cheeks, “I didn’t even realize..” i started to pull my hand away, but before I could, his fingers closed gently around mine, then slowly he threaded our fingers together.

Only after our hands were fully intertwined did he lift his eyes toward Kaia again, “I think she will be okay,” he says softly, “yeah a little nervous, but okay, so you need to stop worry as well.”

My gaze stays on our joined hands, there was something strangely comforting about the way they fit together so perfectly.

Lifting my head slowly to look at him, i found his eyes already on me, with the softes smile resting on his lips, one that reaches his eyes so effortlessly,, causing the warmth to flow through my body.

And without realizing it, i was smiling too, one so bright i was certain it gave me away. Neither of us said anything after that and simply stood there, our hands still locked togther as we watched Kaia from across the theater lobby.

She was still tapping her foot against the floor, and with every few seconds she would glance toward the entrance before looking back down at her phone, which was guessing was the time.

Five minutes slips by, then six. Soon, more than ten minutes had passed since the time written on the note. The movie was about to start, still..there was no sign of her secret admirer.

As if sensing our gaze on her, Kaia turns toward us, her eyes finding mine instantly and i saw it, the uncertainty mixed with disappointment and the quiet fear that she had been stood up by someone whose face she had never even seen.

A theater employee stepped into the lobby. “Now admitting guests for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Please have your tickets ready.”

My brows knitted together as Kaia looked toward the entrance one last time, still nothing. Then she looked back at me, even from where I stood, I could see the tears threatening to spill from her eyes.

She had spent the last month pretending the cards and gift didn’t matter, but somewhere along the way, she has started looking forward and treasuring them.

And whether she wanted to admit it or not..She has grown attached to the person behind them.

I glanced toward the ticket checkpoint, the last guest in line was already making their way inside. “Fuck it,” the words left my mouth before I could think twice, I slipped my hand free from Caelum’s, hurrying across the lobby, weaving through the crowd.

A second later, I heard his footsteps following behind me. “Hey,” she quickly blinked, trying to hide the tears gathering in her eyes, “are you okay?”

Forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “I..” she swallowed hard, “i guess he isn’t coming.”

“I’m sure something must have happened,” i said gently, “maybe something came up and he couldn’t make it, or maybe he..”

“There is no point making excuses for someone who didn’t have the courage to show up” her voice was calm, but i could hear the disappointment beneath it.

Silence settles between us for a moment as I searched her face. “Are you okay?” I asked as the concern slipped from my tone.
