DFIND
Chapter 76
All throughout dinner, Noah was visibly distracted.
Ella wasn’t stupid. From the moment he’d rushed off and returned to the restaurant, he’d looked like this.
She didn’t dare ask whether Noah had actually gone to get something from the car or if he’d chased after someone. And if so, who?
Noah suddenly spoke. “Ella, do you know who your sister got engaged to?”
Ella’s heart sank. In truth, she already knew the answer to her question without asking.
She didn’t understand why, even after Bethany had left, Noah was still completely preoccupied with thoughts about her.
What hold did Bethany have on him? She was supposed to be the one he cared about most!
She deliberately said, “Noah, after Bethany broke off her engagement to the Brannons, Mom and Dad stopped talking about it at home.
“But she should already be engaged. She might even be married already and is just waiting for the wedding.
“I’m guessing there’s a reason they can’t announce it just yet. Maybe the guy’s even more of a playboy than Cyrus Brannon is?”
Ella hoped that Bethany’s marriage would be a disaster. That way, Bethany would always be beneath her.
Hearing this, Noah frowned, lost in thought.
“Noah,” Ella couldn’t help probing. “Did you run into my sister just now?”
Noah paused, then denied it outright. “No, so don’t overthink it. I’ve ordered your engagement ring. As for the wedding photos, have you thought about where you want to take them?”
Ella relaxed slightly at his words. At least her beloved Noah was still willing to marry her.
“There’s no rush on the wedding photos. When you have time, can we get our marriage registered first?”
Normally, Ella shouldn’t be the one to bring this up, but she really couldn’t wait any longer.
The longer she waited, the less certain she was of Noah’s heart.
Noah clearly froze when she mentioned the marriage registration. He was silent for a moment before speaking. “Ella, there’s no rush on the license, either. Once I finish up with work, we’ll pick a good day to get it done, okay? I haven’t even proposed to you yet.”
Ella’s spirits lifted. “Noah!”
“Come on, Ella, you shouldn’t be the one bringing this up. Wait for me, alright?”
Ella shyly lowered her head. “Okay, I’ll do whatever you say.”
After placating her, Noah’s mind wandered once more.
Should he really be getting married?
When she got home, Ella told her parents that Noah was planning to propose.
Gary was very satisfied with his future son–in–law. “Ella, don’t be willful after you’re married. Noah is a good man, a rarity these days.”

DFIND THE CLUE
“I know, Dad!” Ella stuck out her tongue playfully, then looked at Diana.
“By the way, Mom, I heard Bethany caused trouble at the company again. That friend I asked you to hire? Bethany had her fired, too.”
“What? You mean Yvonne?” Diana couldn’t believe it.
“Yeah, Mom. Didn’t Uncle Antonio tell you?” Ella pressed.
Diana’s face tightened, her eyes darkening. “I see. I’ll give her a piece of my mind soon.”
Diana talked about teaching Bethany a lesson, but she was still blocked on all platforms. In truth, she felt quite defeated. Meanwhile, Ella was satisfied with what she’d accomplished.
Bethany and Silas dropped Evan off at home. With only the two of them left in the car, the atmosphere felt strange. Neither broke the awkward silence for a while.
Silas suddenly asked, “Are you working overtime this weekend?” Bethany shook her head. “No.”
