“Let’s take wedding photos on that cruise ship,” Silas said.

Bethany said nothing in response for a while.

“Cruise ship?”

Silas smiled faintly. “The voucher you gave me last time. We might as well put them to use. We can travel and get the wedding photos done.”

“Alright.”

Bethany couldn’t tell which of Silas‘ words were true and which were false. But they needed to take wedding photos eventually.

Diana stormed into Elysian the next day. She couldn’t just let things slide when Bethany refused to see her.

Antonio looked at his sister as if she were his savior. “Diana, your daughter’s been way too aggressive lately.”

Diana frowned. “What has she done now?”

“She’s replaced a bunch of veteran employees since joining the company. Now, a lot of staff members are upset. Who knows who her next target will be!”

Diana pressed her lips together. “Call her. Tell her to come here immediately.”

Antonio’s face lit up, knowing his sister was about to put his niece in her place. He coughed and pretended to mediate the two. “Don’t be too hard on Beth. She’s still young-”

Diana took a deep breath. “If she’s so young, why didn’t you stop her from causing chaos around here?”

Antonio choked on his words and said nothing more. He simply called Bethany on the internal line and told her to come over.

When Bethany pushed the door open, she paused. “Did you need something?”

The polite but distant tone seemed aimed at both of them, but Diana felt like her daughter was mocking her alone.

Diana furrowed her brow, her face stern. “Beth, I didn’t put you in charge of this company for you to run wild. Are you playing house by firing employees at will?”

Bethany glanced at Diana coolly. “In what capacity are you lecturing me, Ms. Reeves?”

Diana bristled. “What? I’m your mother. Can’t I say a few words to you?”

Bethany smiled faintly. “It seems Uncle Antonio didn’t tell you why I fired those employees.

“The head of security was negligent and allowed the media to barge into a guest’s hotel room to ambush them. Should he not have been replaced?”

“The procurement supervisor was caught substituting substandard products. Should he not have been fired?

“And most recently, the operations supervisor, Yvonne.” Bethany’s lips curved upward.

“She was suspected of trying to seduce a client, which led to the client’s wife making a scene at our office. That created extremely negative publicity for the company. Yet we still offered her the standard severance required by labor law. Wasn’t that generous enough?

“If Elysian hires people from top to bottom based on connections and favors, it will destroy this company!”

She fixed her gaze on Diana. “So, I’m asking you, Ms. Reeves, who exactly is playing house here?”

Being confronted like this by her daughter in front of her own brother humiliated Diana. Her chest tightened painfully, and she raised her hand and slapped Bethany across the face.

Both Antonio and Bethany froze. Antonio hadn’t expected his sister to get so worked up.

Bethany’s ears rang, and the sting settled into a dull throb. She swept aside the hair that had fallen across her face and smiled lightly.

Watching on, Antonio swallowed. He hadn’t expected his niece to still be able to smile.

Bethany’s eyes were cold and clear as she looked at Diana. “What’s this? Can’t win an argument, so you resort to violence?

“I call you Ms. Reeves out of respect. But right now, I’m the majority shareholder of this hotel. How I run it is my business. Besides, this was my father’s legacy to me.

“All these years, you’ve only been managing it on my behalf. Did managing it temporarily make you think you actually owned the place?”

Bethany stopped looking at her and turned to Antonio instead. “Uncle, if you’re unhappy about something, tell me directly. Don’t use her to pressure me.

“After all, she has no power over me.”

She glanced coldly at Diana’s face and called security right in front of them both. “Please come to Mr. Reeves’s office and escort the guest out. Someone’s causing a disturbance here. Handle it accordingly.”

Diana, who’d felt a twinge of guilt seeing her daughter’s swollen face, was now completely enraged.

“Bethany, do you even consider me your mother anymore? You’re actually trying to throw me out?” Bethany gave her an indifferent look. “The day I blocked you, you stopped being my mother.”
