Julian dipped his head to kiss me, and I kissed him back with desperate heat.
The kiss deepened as we stumbled backward, tumbling onto the mattress in a tangled mess of limbs. He continued kissing my jaw as his clumsy fingers fumbled with the buttons of my pajama top.
He was impatient but agonizingly gentle, checking my facial expressions after every single button, terrified I might push him away.
Taking matters into my own hands, I ripped the rest of the buttons open myself and grabbed his large hand, pressing his palm directly against my bare chest.
He was an inexperienced, hot-blooded rookie. His breathing instantly hitched, and for a long moment, he was too paralyzed to even move, his misty eyes staring down at me in absolute shock.
I arched my back and pressed my lips against his bobbing Adam's apple.
Tonight was supposed to be magical and perfect. But of course, the universe had other plans.
Just as Julian was blindly trying to figure out how to close the final distance between us, his phone shattered the mood.
"Julian, what the hell is wrong with the file you submitted?! Do you realize how massive this screw-up is?"
Julian frowned, pulling back slightly. "What screw-up?"
"Get your ass down here and look at it yourself! Right now!"
The brutal screaming from his boss instantly killed his libido. He threw the covers aside and scrambled out of bed, grabbing his dress shirt.
I desperately grabbed his sleeve.
"Let's just do it before you leave. We can make it quick."
Julian was a perfectionist; he rarely made typos, let alone catastrophic errors. The entire situation screamed foul play.
It felt completely premeditated, like someone was surgically removing him from my side.
Julian turned back to look at me, the intense frustration in his eyes instantly melting into pure devotion the second he saw my face.
He leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to my forehead.
"I don't want our first time to be a stressful, painful rush. I want it to be perfect for you. Wait for me."
All the fight drained out of me.
Meanwhile, my corporate group chat was absolutely exploding.
Anna Cameron had just dropped a massive digital red envelope full of cash into the chat.
My coworkers were practically worshipping her for securing the most elusive brand ambassador on the market.
[Only the legendary Ms. Cameron could actually get Dr. Lockwood to say yes!]
[Dr. Lockwood literally has billions in the bank and hates the spotlight. He 100% did this purely out of love for Ms. Cameron!]
