A Ruinous Night novel Chapter 11

I gave a distracted "Oh."

Taking a day off meant my workload had piled up. They might have had time to gossip, but I didn't.

Halfway through my documents, Perry Vance showed up in our department.

"Stella, come here for a second. Explain the product to Dr. Lockwood."

Wasn't my PDF clear enough?

What part couldn't he understand that required me to explain it in person?

Still, I stood up immediately.

"Sure."

Perry was Mr. Landon's assistant; his word was Landon's word, and a corporate drone couldn't refuse.

In the conference room, Lucian sat at the head of the table on the right, with Anna Cameron right beside him.

I greeted them professionally.

"Dr. Lockwood, I drafted the advertising copy for this season, and I'll be walking you through the selling points of our new product."

Lucian gave a brief nod, signaling me to start.

When I finished, he critiqued, "The benefits sound completely average. There's nothing unique."

Mr. Landon chimed in, "Stella, redo this proposal."

"Understood."

I agreed.

But I quickly added, "Mr. Landon, Dr. Lockwood, I feel that most toothpaste products on the market already make wild, exaggerated claims. Even if we overhype ours, we can't claim it grows new teeth. It's hard to make basic functions stand out. My idea is to emphasize the safety of the ingredients, since it's something going into people's mouths."

Landon nodded.

"Alright, you have a point."

The man blew with the wind; whoever spoke last made sense to him.

Anna glanced at my employee badge and suddenly spoke up. "Stella Sharpe... Are you the Stella Sharpe from Dr. Lockwood's social feed?"

My hands froze over my papers.

Landon was curious. "What social feed?"

Anna explained, "The pinned post on his page. It goes back to right before he graduated college. The Lockwood family sponsored a low-income student. She barely knew him, but suddenly threatened to jump off a building to force him to marry her. It made a lot of people mistakenly think he was some kind of player."
