I hadn't seen anyone I knew at that clinic.

I had even worn a mask, putting it on the second I stepped out of the procedure room.

Yet, somehow, my luck was terrible enough that someone still recognized me and went out of their way to mention it to him.

I reached for the emergency hammer mounted by the door, taking it down. Gripping the cool metal, I asked one last time.

"Are you going to open the door?"

Lucian's tone was lazy. "Don't tell me you went to get something patched up again."

I swung the hammer and smashed the driver's side window.

With a loud crash, the glass shattered, and the sweltering heat from outside rushed in, flushing my cheeks.

I reached through the broken window, yanked the exterior handle, and finally forced the door open.

As I stepped one foot out, his casual voice drifted over. "My lawyer will contact you regarding the damages."

That window probably cost thousands of dollars.

I stepped onto the shattered glass, the shards crunching beneath my shoes.

"I can't afford it. Sue me."

I paused, then added, "If you can't afford a driver, why buy a Rolls-Royce?"

I didn't stick around to see his reaction.

There was a convenience store outside the hospital. I bought a sandwich, grabbed a box of condoms, shoved them in my pocket, and hailed a cab to the hotel.

The taxi smelled a bit stale, so I rolled down the window halfway to let the breeze in, watching the city streets blur past.

Mr. Landon called.

"Stella, what is wrong with you? How did you manage to offend Dr. Lockwood just by driving him? He's incredibly unhappy right now and wants to reconsider the partnership. If you keep this up, you won't pass your probation."

I was planning on leaving Veridia City anyway, so keeping this job didn't matter to me in the slightest.

Besides, Landon was one of the resident shareholders and completely incompetent; the company's future was bleak, and it wasn't worth wasting my time on.
