"Stella, play chauffeur for a bit. Drive Dr. Lockwood back to Southglade Hospital."
I glanced at the double R logo on the key. This obviously wasn't a company vehicle, and Mr. Landon didn't drive anything like this. It was most likely Lucian's personal car.
Had he driven himself here and now couldn't drive back?
Besides, the company had several dedicated drivers; under no circumstances should a task like this fall on me.
I picked up the key.
A few of my coworkers craned their necks to look.
"Wow, that's a Rolls-Royce."
"Doctors sure make bank, huh."
I took the key and headed toward the elevators.
...
The drive from the office to Southglade Hospital took thirty minutes, meaning a round trip of an hour.
Our lunch break was two hours long, so dropping him off and getting back left me with plenty of time.
A luxury car was vastly different from my cheap daily driver.
I felt like an idiot, having to look up how to close the doors and start the engine on my phone.
Lucian sat in the backseat, watching my clumsy, fumbling process like he was enjoying a clown show.
He disdained giving instructions, and I refused to ask.
Eventually, I figured it out and slammed my foot on the gas.
Driving smoothly was difficult, but making a passenger nauseous was incredibly easy.
I slammed on the brakes constantly, illegally crossed solid lines right under the traffic cameras, and sped up the second the navigation warned of a speed trap.
At this rate, I'd rack up enough tickets to lose my license in thirty minutes flat.
Lucian remained completely unfazed, not uttering a single word of complaint.
Soon, we hit a congested stretch of road. The traffic ahead was crawling at a snail's pace.
It normally wasn't this backed up at this hour; there must have been sudden construction or an accident up ahead.
I slapped the steering wheel in frustration.
Lucian spoke evenly. "Find a place to park. Let's grab lunch."
I pretended I didn't hear him.
The car inched forward, barely covering a few feet in five minutes.
Lucian answered his phone.
