A Secretive Deal with My Billionaire Boss (by Gregory Ellington) novel Chapter 456

Alexander

Sleep didn't come easily. I was too aware of her beside me. The warmth of her body was just inches away. The soft sound of her breathing. The faint scent of her shampoo on the pillow.

I shifted, trying to find a comfortable position. Adjusted the blanket. Flipped my pillow to the cool side.

Nothing worked.

Beside me, Madison moved. Her breathing had changed, no longer the deep rhythm of sleep.

"Alexander?" Her voice cut through the darkness.

"Yeah?"

"Are you sleeping?"

I pulled her closer, tucking her against my side. Her body fit perfectly there, like it always had. "Yes."

She was quiet for a second. Then her hand found my chest, fingers tracing lazy patterns over my skin. "You promised something before."

"Did I?"

"Mmhmm." Her touch moved lower, skimming my abs. "You said we'd finish what we started. But now you're just sleeping."

My cock went from half hard to rock solid in seconds. I kept my breathing steady, not giving away how much her touch was affecting me. "I am sleeping."

Her hand moved lower still, fingers brushing the waistband of my sleep pants. "Doesn't feel like you're sleeping."

"Could be a dream."

She tried to touch my face, her fingers finding my jaw in the darkness. "Alexander. What are you doing?"

I opened my eyes, even if she couldn't see them clearly. "I thought you might not be interested."

"Do you think like that?" Her voice went soft, vulnerable in a way that made my chest tight. "You really thought I wasn't interested?"

I rolled, pinning her beneath me in one smooth movement. Her gasp filled the darkness as my weight settled over her. "You climbed into bed fully dressed and went to sleep."

"I was testing you."

"Testing me?"

"To see if you'd wait. If you'd be patient." Her hands found my shoulders, sliding down to my chest. "Or if you'd just take what you wanted anyway."

"And what's the verdict?"

"Still deciding." Her fingers traced my collarbones, then moved to my face, mapping my features in the dark. "You kissed my forehead and said good night. Let me sleep. That was sweet."

"Sweet?"

"Yeah. You're usually not patient. You see something you want, and you just take it. But tonight you waited." Her thumb brushed my bottom lip. "That's different."

"I'm still not a patient man."

"No?" She laughed softly, the sound vibrating between us. "You just proved otherwise."

"One time doesn't make me patient."

"It's a start." Her hands slid down my chest, fingers tracing the lines of muscle. "And it's good. Really good."

I caught her hands, pinning them gently above her head. "Don't get used to it."

"Why not?"

"Because I'm only patient when it matters. When you need sleep, you get sleep. But right now?" I leaned closer, my mouth near her ear. "Right now, you're awake and touching me and testing me. Patience has limits."

She shivered beneath me. "What are those limits?"

"You're about to find out." I released her hands, rolled onto my side, and pulled her with me so we faced each other. "Stop testing me and just talk to me."

"Talk?"

"Yeah. Tell me what's going on in that head of yours." My hand found her waist, holding her close. "Because you climbed into the bed, pretended to sleep, then started touching me the second I relaxed. That's not exhaustion. That's something else."

She was quiet for a moment. I could feel her thinking, could sense the wheels turning in her head even if I couldn't see her expression clearly in the dark.

"I wanted to see if you'd changed," she finally said.
