The King Of Warriors novel (Jared Chance) novel Chapter 6650

Jared and Gwendolyn followed the flow of people without hurrying.

After about thirty miles, a massive tower appeared in front of them.

It rose so high that its upper levels disappeared into clouds. No one could tell exactly how many floors it had. A soft, hazy glow wrapped around the entire structure, making it appear and fade like a mirage.

Cultivators packed the area around it.

A quick look showed at least a thousand people gathered in a dense ring, all with anticipation shining on their faces.

Jared studied the tower.

A flicker of doubt passed through his violet eyes.

The outline looked familiar.

So did the half-real, half-hidden aura around it.

He stepped closer, trying to get a clearer look.

Then he saw the young acolyte at the entrance.

The boy looked thirteen or fourteen, wearing a gray robe washed nearly white. His hair was tied up carelessly with a wooden pin, and his round face looked harmless enough to fool anyone.

In front of him was an old table.

On the table sat a wooden box.

Three big words were written on it.

"Entrance Fee."

The acolyte sat behind the table, smiling at the line of cultivators like a seasoned shopkeeper.

"One hundred supreme-grade crystals per person! Pay first, enter first! If you are late, all the good treasures will be gone."

Jared looked at him, and his mouth curved before he could stop it.

He knew that boy.

The acolyte from the Celestial Stairway.

He had not expected to run into him in the Nineteenth Firmament.

Standing in the crowd, Jared watched the little acolyte collect money with a bright face and shook his head.

Gwendolyn followed Jared's gaze. Curiosity entered her icy-blue eyes.

"You know him?"

"Yes." Jared nodded. His smile deepened. "An old acquaintance."

He brought Gwendolyn to the end of the line.

They waited for about half an hour before reaching the table.

The young acolyte looked up at Jared with a businesslike smile and stretched out one hand.

"One hundred supreme-grade crystals each. Two people, two hundred."

Jared took out two hundred supreme-grade crystals and placed them on the table.

The acolyte's eyes lit up.

His hands moved quickly. He swept the crystals into the box, then pulled out two jade tokens and handed them over.

"Entry tokens. Take them and go in. Remember, every floor has treasure. But the better things are higher up. As for how you reach higher floors... you will know once you are inside."

Jared accepted the tokens and looked at the acolyte.

The boy became uncomfortable under that gaze.

Something about this ordinary-looking young man felt strange, like he was being looked at by someone who knew him.

"You... what are you looking at?" the acolyte asked warily.

Jared had hidden his aura and slightly altered his appearance, so the acolyte did not recognize him.

Even if he had recognized him, he likely would not have believed it.

How long had it been?

How could Jared have already reached the Nineteenth Firmament?

Back then, the acolyte had personally led him through the Celestial Stairway and into the celestial realm.

Jared shook his head.

"I found a five-hundred-year red reishi!"

Another cultivator raised a bright red reishi that released a rich medicinal fragrance.

But most people searched for a long time and found only ordinary herbs a few decades old.

Some dug up nothing but weed roots.

"What the hell is this?"

A bearded man threw a handful of weeds to the ground and crushed them underfoot. "What can a few decades of medicinal strength even do? It is too weak for decent pills."

"Exactly. They called this an ancient ruin. Where are the treasures? A few lousy herbs are supposed to be worth one hundred supreme-grade crystals?"

A tall, thin cultivator next to him complained with an ugly face.

Jared did not search for herbs.

He stood with Gwendolyn and watched the others work.

He could sense the garden clearly.

There were many spirit herbs here, but most were between one hundred and three hundred years old. Herbs over five hundred years were rare. As for thousand-year herbs, he did not sense even one.

To ordinary cultivators, these things had some value.

For cultivators above Golden Immortal Level Four, they were almost meaningless.

They had paid one hundred supreme-grade crystals to enter.

If they walked away with only a two- or three-hundred-year herb, they had lost money.

"What a scam."

"A scam? Then do not come in."

"How was I supposed to know it would be like this? They said it was an ancient ruin. I thought treasure would be everywhere."

"Same. I was tricked by that overnight-rich nonsense. What a joke."

The complaints grew louder.

The excitement on the cultivators' faces slowly turned into disappointment and anger.
