A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1100

Herbert's behavior in Marina City versus Yoran Country had been a night-and-day difference. She had genuinely believed he had changed his tune.

She assumed his feelings for Starla had become deeply entangled with business interests.

But to hear Fairfax say that Herbert was the first one to obliterate everything in the name of revenge!

It completely upended her understanding of the dynamic between Herbert and Starla.

Fairfax choked back a sob. "She..."

She what?

The second he brought her up, he squeezed his eyes shut, unable to speak.

He simply couldn't comprehend that this was it. She was now standing at the furthest possible distance away from him.

All this time...

He thought her running away, or becoming the Hoggart family's princess, was the furthest she could ever be from him.

But the true furthest distance!

Was the impenetrable wall between life and death.

"You still have to get back on your feet. No matter what happened, your life has to go on," Susanna pleaded softly.

Honestly, she was struggling to accept the permanence of Starla's death too.

But seeing how broken Fairfax was...

She didn't need to ask. Whatever needed to be confirmed at Shark Sea had clearly been confirmed.

...

Sometimes, when a person is drowning in sorrow.

Vocalizing their pain can relieve a fraction of the pressure. After finally speaking up today, Fairfax looked just a little bit more grounded.

When Amos walked back into the room.

Fairfax finally addressed him directly. "Why didn't you bring her back?!"

It was only now that Fairfax truly registered the fact that Starla's belongings hadn't been brought back with them.

Her remains, and whatever was left...

Amos blinked, caught entirely off guard. "Dude, you were passed out! The other two guys there... one of them is her actual brother, and the other is totally obsessed with her."

Fairfax leveled a freezing, deathly glare at Amos and said nothing.

Amos shifted uncomfortably under the intense stare. "Look, seriously... why are you only asking about this now?"

After half a month of dead silence, Amos figured Fairfax had sat around and thought everything completely through.

So what the hell was this?

Was he just trying to pick a fight now...

"Where is she?" Fairfax demanded.

He needed to know exactly where her remains were!

"Herbert took everything," Amos replied honestly.

He had managed to dig up that piece of information. Even though he couldn't bring Starla back, he at least needed to know where she ended up!

Even if... she was truly gone...

The second Fairfax heard that Herbert was the one who had taken the very last pieces of Starla, his face instantly darkened into an expression of pure, murderous thunder.
