Starla headed back to the hospital. Elmer wasn't in the best of health.
He had practically been living there lately.
Seeing her walk in, he smiled fondly. "When you go out from now on, take Luce with you."
Luce had just returned.
She glanced at the sharp-suited man beside him. She recognized him.
Every time she had seen Elmer before, Luce and David were always trailing right behind him.
Luce appeared to be around David’s age.
She nodded. "Luce."
He offered a respectful bow. "Miss Starla."
She set the takeout containers on a small table. "I brought you some food. See if you like it."
Herbert had picked a great restaurant, and she had enjoyed the meal.
So she packed up a couple of her favorite dishes to bring back.
Elmer looked genuinely surprised that she had brought him food.
David looked equally shocked. "But you already—"
"Ahem!"
Before he could finish, Elmer cut him off with a loud cough.
David shut his mouth instantly.
She looked at her father. "Did you already eat? It's fine if you did."
"I wasn't quite full. What you brought is perfect."
She blinked.

"Sure."
She took a seat on the couch.

You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
