"Yes, sir," Garret nodded.
A short while later, Jane Merlin arrived.
Starla was just heading out to visit her father at the hospital when she ran into Jane in the grand foyer. She had only returned to the castle because she assumed Yardley wouldn't be home tonight. The fact that he was here—and had the nerve to summon her—only soured her mood further.

But Luce, the bodyguard Elmer had assigned to Starla, immediately bowed his head. "Ms. Merlin."
Jane offered a slight nod. The woman radiated power. Dressed in a tailored ivory pantsuit with striking platinum-blonde hair, her features were as flawless as a porcelain doll's. But her eyes were anything but fragile; they were sharp, calculating, and fierce.
"This is our second young lady, Miss Starla," Luce introduced. He then turned to Starla. "This is Jane, the eldest daughter of the Merlin family."
*Merlin.*
The moment Starla heard the name, she knew this was the woman Yardley was marrying to secure an alliance.
"Hello," Starla said politely.

You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
