He strode over to the table and looked down at the small, compartmentalized containers. "Who sent you this?" he demanded, his voice cold.
Starla didn't even look at him, continuing to eat as if he weren't there.
His patience wore thin. "Why?"
"Why?" She finally looked up, her voice devoid of emotion. "Because if I hadn't been on my guard, I'd be the one in the hospital with food poisoning right now."
She met his gaze, her own eyes like chips of ice. "The Yelchin family is a curse on me."
It was a deliberate echo of the words Darleen had so often thrown at her. After she lost her first baby, Darleen had constantly claimed she was a curse on the family. Now, Starla was turning the accusation back on them.
Fairfax's face darkened. On the television in the living room, a news anchor was reporting on Flavia's case. "Based on evidence provided by the Yelchin Group, the investigation has confirmed the allegations. Dr. Flavia will face legal consequences for her actions."
Hearing the phrase 'evidence provided by the Yelchin Group,' Starla's head snapped toward Fairfax. His expression froze, a flicker of annoyance in his eyes—clearly, he was displeased that Gabriel hadn't handled the matter more discreetly.
Starla set down her spoon. "You provided the evidence of Flavia's illegal activities?"
Fairfax shot her a look but didn't answer, moving to sink into a sofa on the other side of the room. He took out a cigarette but just held it between his fingers, unlit.
"So if you provided the evidence," Starla continued, her voice dangerously quiet, "then you must know that I really was pregnant, right?"
Fairfax's body went rigid.
Remembering his reaction to the recording that morning, Starla let out a dry, mirthless laugh. It grew louder, filled with a bitter irony.
The question was a dagger to Fairfax’s heart. It was a truth he had been trying to avoid since the day before. Now, hearing it from her lips, he shut his eyes, unable to respond.
Seeing his silence, Starla let out a sharp, humorless sound. "Hah…"
So, he knew she was pregnant and that she'd lost their baby, but he still refused to believe Brinley had anything to do with it?
"Then how did I miscarry? Was my body just too weak?"
"It doesn't matter how you miscarried," Fairfax finally snapped, his voice rough. "You had no right to touch my brother's children!"
Starla flinched. ‘His brother's children.’ He hadn't said Brinley's name. But to her, it was all the same. No matter how he phrased it, he was still protecting them, protecting Brinley.

"You're a failure as a husband and coward as a Man" This is what i want to say in Fairfax hahaha you dont deserved a wife if you cant protect her...
Hahaha This plot of story i hate about, choosing another girl instead of your own wife is something unreal, you didnt considered your wife feeling, you didnt even trust her and later on you will say sorry?? Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
