The only way Darleen, Xenia, and Brinley could get food now was to steal it. The thought of the esteemed Yelchin family resorting to shoplifting was almost comical. It would be the scandal of the year.

Starla nodded in satisfaction. Her goal was to trap them in the estate. Even if they managed to leave the house, the entire city of Marina was now just a larger cage.

Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Fairfax.

“Alright,” she said sweetly. “You’re right. I should be a good Yelchin daughter-in-law.”

Her sudden compliance caught Fairfax off guard. “What are you planning now?” he asked, suspicious.

“Just being a good daughter-in-law, like you said. Is there something wrong with that?”
