Harriet's suddenly sharp tone made Brinley feel even more aggrieved. She couldn't even manage her own affairs, so how was she supposed to handle Quest's?
Hearing the note of self-pity in Brinley's voice, Harriet's anger flared. "Do you have any idea how much I'm relying on Clyde to handle things for me here in Yoran Country?" she snapped. "His son is in Fairfax's hands. If you don't get him out, what if Clyde gets upset and refuses to help me properly?"
"Is it really that Clyde won't help you, or are you just getting anxious yourself?" Brinley retorted, her emotions finally boiling over.
Harrietโs voice turned into a furious hiss. "What are you trying to say?"
Brinley felt a wave of suffocation. She took a deep breath. "Nothing."
What could she say? For some time now, she had felt Harriet favoring Quest, even though she was her biological daughter. Sometimes, her mother would deny her requests but would immediately grant whatever Quest asked for.
And now was no different.
"You'd better not mean anything by that," Harriet warned, her voice like ice. "Fine, go deal with your own mess. Forget about Quest."
It was clear to Harriet now. Brinley was caught red-handed with Felix. Hopefully, she could talk her way out of it and regain Fairfax's trust as she had before. As for Quest, Harriet realized Brinley had no real intention of helping. Even if she did ask Fairfax, she wouldn't truly try to save him and would probably just make things worse.
Harriet hung up.
Brinley stared through the car window. In the distance, Fairfax had one foot planted firmly on Felix's back. Felix must have regained consciousness at some point. His face, smeared with blood, was a mask of helpless misery.
But what Brinley saw was a sight that tore at her heart, and tears blurred her vision. Instinctively, her hand shot out to open the car door.
"Miss, what are you doing?" Sally grabbed her arm.
Seeing Felix lying motionless on the ground, Brinley was terrified Fairfax had already killed him.
"He probably won't. Let's just wait a little longer," Sally said, trying to soothe her.
After being involved in so many of Brinley's schemes, Sally had no desire for their connection to be exposed now. If she were implicated, she would face severe consequences.
Under Sally's calming influence, Brinley forced herself to stay put. But her resolve was short-lived.
Fairfax turned and began walking toward their car. He moved against the dim light, but the oppressive, intimidating aura he exuded was unmistakable.
Brinleyโs heart seized in her chest.

"You're a failure as a husband and coward as a Man" This is what i want to say in Fairfax hahaha you dont deserved a wife if you cant protect her...
Hahaha This plot of story i hate about, choosing another girl instead of your own wife is something unreal, you didnt considered your wife feeling, you didnt even trust her and later on you will say sorry?? Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
