A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 515

Gabriel provided Fairfax with a detailed report on Larry.

By the time Fairfax hung up, he felt numb. He put on an extra jacket before heading downstairs, a rare concession to the cold.

Starla had already finished her breakfast. Fairfax sat down across from her, his eyes drifting to Darleen and Xenia shoveling snow outside before settling on Starla with an icy glare. She was flipping through a magazine, ignoring him so completely it was as if he were invisible.

Unable to stand her indifference any longer, he finally spoke. "What is your relationship with Larry?"

Larry was the manager in the Hoggart Group's finance division. She even knew people in their finance department. Her connections were far more extensive than he had ever imagined.

Starla didn't recognize the name. "Who's that?" she asked casually.

"You don't know him?" Fairfax raised an eyebrow, his voice laced with suspicion. He didn't believe for a second that she was being truthful.

Starla met his gaze. "Should I?"

"Let's try this another way. How many of your assets are you moving to Yoran Country, and why is Larry from the Hoggart Group handling it for you?"

Hearing his demand to divide her assets, Starla actually laughed out loud. "Fairfax, I don't think you've quite grasped the situation," she said, her tone dripping with pity.

Look at the state the Yelchin family was in. His threat was nothing more than a delusional fantasy. If he were still the untouchable Fairfax of old, then perhaps her assets would have been at risk. But things were different now. He was the one powerless against her. And he thought he could drag her down with him? The only ones who would be torn apart were the Yelchins themselves. She would remain completely unscathed.

"You want to split my assets?" Starla continued, her voice filled with amusement. "And if I refuse, I suppose you'll sue me?"

Fairfax fell silent. Sue her? The words sounded absurdly ironic. He remembered when Starla had been the one threatening legal action, and his family had scoffed at her. They had boasted that no lawyer in Marina City would dare to take her case, that no one would risk offending the Yelchin family.
