Hearing Starla's words, a bitter laugh escaped Brinley's lips. "You're right. I do hate myself."

She hated the version of herself that hadn't cherished Faraday. She hated the woman who had stooped to sleeping with Felix. She hated herself so much it physically hurt. Her own toxic choices had led to everyone abandoning her. Even her own mother despised her now. She had absolutely nothing left.

Brinley looked up at Starla, her eyes hollow. "What do I have to do for you to let me go?"

"That is a wildly stupid question," Starla scoffed.

Let her go? Not in this lifetime.

"Then do you want me dead?" Brinley asked, her voice cracking. "If you do, just make it quick."

She hadn't slept for two days straight, and right now, death felt like a sweet release. Harriet had cut her off. Felix had abandoned her. There was no place for her in the Yelchin family anymore. She didn't see the point of breathing another day. She was entirely broken.

"Quick?" Starla murmured, her eyes cold. "I'm afraid I can't give you that."

Brinley stared at her, utterly defeated.

She was drowning in despair. Of all the players in this twisted game, Brinley had undoubtedly lost the most.

Just as she stepped out of the room, her phone rang. It was Felix.

"I told you to handle Fairfax! Why haven't you done it yet?!" Felix's hysterical screaming tore through the speaker. "Is he disgusted by you now? You used to be so damn good at seducing him!"

He was desperate to save the Fowler Group, and the panic was making him vicious. The words spewing from his mouth were pure filth.
