A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 680

"Alright, it's almost over anyway."

Everything was drawing to a close.

Watching Starla walk safely through the gates, Herbert turned to Rudolf in the front seat. "Send more men to the perimeter."

"Understood," Rudolf nodded.

Fairfax had been pushed to his absolute limit by Starla. He wasn't a man who took humiliation lightly. The only reason he had endured it this long was likely due to lingering emotional ties. But now? With everything shattered and the endgame approaching, who knew if those ties were enough to hold him back from snapping?

...

The moment Starla stepped inside, Garret approached her. "Did Mr. Shipley call you?"

"No. Why?" she asked, looking at him curiously.

"Darleen managed to contact Kael Shipley's wife."

Starla let out a dry laugh. "I really underestimated their resourcefulness."

When Garret had previously mentioned that Darleen and Xenia were hunting for Mrs. Shipley's contact info, Starla had brushed it off. How could two disgraced women reach someone all the way in Yoran Country?

Apparently, desperation bred competence.

"Did Mrs. Shipley call to complain?" Starla asked.

Garret shook his head. "No. When Darleen reached out, Mrs. Shipley simply replied with two words: 'I know.'"

Starla smirked. "That's a perfect response."

Darleen and Xenia were buzzing with the thrilling hope that Mrs. Shipley was about to descend like an avenging angel and rip Starla to shreds.

Sally was fast asleep in the corner. Brinley lay perfectly still on her cot, dead to the world, while her phone buzzed relentlessly against the mattress.

Ignoring her, Darleen and Xenia whispered excitedly.

"It's finally ending," Xenia breathed, sounding as if a massive weight had been lifted off her chest.

Darleen scoffed maliciously. "That bitch actually said I wouldn't live to see her downfall! She really thinks she's untouchable. Let's see how much that married man protects her when his wife comes for blood."

"Exactly!" Xenia agreed, her eyes gleaming with vindictive joy. "No matter how much a man enjoys his little side piece, the moment his marriage is threatened, he'll toss her to the wolves without a second thought! Mom, how long do you think it will take before Mrs. Shipley destroys her?"

Darleen smiled, her expression dripping with absolute, arrogant certainty. "Three days. Tops."
