A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 775

Did he have zero self-awareness regarding his own shamelessness? Thinking back to all the despicable things Fairfax had pulled, Starla felt her blood boil.

"Yes, I can do it," Garret said.

"Then dial it. Right now."

"Give me a moment," Garret replied calmly, pulling out his laptop.

Starla was so angry she felt like she might spontaneously combust. She desperately needed to scream at Fairfax just to vent the toxic buildup of resentment in her chest. Ever since he had fled without signing the divorce papers, her anger had been compounding day by day. His relentless, mocking text messages were pushing her to the absolute brink.

Garret typed furiously, routing the number through his software. "Miss, try it now."

Starla snatched her phone and dialed. This time, it didn't immediately disconnect after a single ring. It rang several times before someone manually hung up on her.

Already on a hair-trigger, the rejection sent her fury into overdrive. She dialed again. It rang and rang until, halfway through, the call finally connected.

Fairfax didn't say a word. The heavy, deliberate silence on his end felt like it was designed to drive her insane.

Starla took a sharp breath. "Fairfax!"

"Speak," he commanded. His voice was cold, carrying the dangerous, quiet edge of a predator in the dark.

Hearing that icy tone was the final straw. "If you're any kind of a man, you'll sign those papers and give me my damn divorce!"

"Are you really that impatient?" he fired back.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

Starla saw red. "You don't have the right to hold me hostage! Youโ€”"

"Yeah, I lied to you back then!" Fairfax cut her off, showing zero remorse for the deception that built their marriage.

"And you think you have the right to seek revenge on me now?!" she screamed, unable to contain the explosion of rage. He was refusing the divorce purely out of spite because she had dismantled his family.

"Think whatever you want," Fairfax replied coolly. "Bottom line is, you're never going to be with him. Not in this lifetime."

"Oh, really?" Starla let out a dark, cynical laugh. "You know, there's always another way out of a marriage. It's called... widowhood."

Before she could even finish the threat, Fairfax cut in smoothly, "Don't worry, sweetheart. I'm incredibly hard to kill."
