Now that his family's legacy was utterly destroyed, Fairfax had absolutely nothing left to lose. He had no boundaries and no reservations. Starla had ruthlessly dismantled everything he cared about, and now he was dedicating himself to doing the exact same to her. It was a vicious cycle with no end in sight.
Starla let out a heavy sigh. "I'm just so exhausted by all of it."
It was beyond frustrating just to think about it.
"Alright, let's not talk about me right now. You just focus on handling things with Darian."
"After hearing what you're dealing with, I'm definitely breaking up with him," Tanya said definitively. They weren't married yet, which made cutting ties infinitely easier. If she ended up in a situation like Starla's, tethered to a man who refused to let her go out of sheer spite, she'd lose her mind.
"I'll let you go," Starla said.
"Yeah. Talk later."
Starla hung up the phone and rolled over, burying her face in the pillows, feeling her anxiety spiraling out of control. Tanya had been right. Being tied to a man who made even breaking up a living hell was an absolute nightmare.
The next morning, Starla was jolted awake by a maid.
"Miss?"
"Hmm?" Starla blinked her eyes open, her vision blurry. "What is it?"
"Reba asked me to inform you that it's time to get up."
The maid spoke politely, visibly relieved when Starla didn't lash out at being woken up. Starla had tossed and turned all night, drifting in and out of a restless sleep, and her head was currently pounding.
Hearing that Reba was summoning her meant the grueling self-defense training Yardley had ordered was about to resume. Yardley demanded immediate results, which meant Reba was going to push her to the absolute limit.
Starla took a deep breath, trying to force her brain to boot up. It wasn't working. "What time is it?"
"Almost nine o'clock."
"Oh. Right. Better get up."
Nine o'clock. In the brutal world she had been thrust into, 9 AM was basically sleeping in. Reba was clearly going easy on her by letting her rest this late, but it didn't feel like a luxury.
"I'll go see him," Starla said, bypassing the breakfast table and walking toward the front doors.
Stepping outside, she spotted Herbert standing by the fountain a short distance away. His back was to her, and his posture was rigid, radiating a dangerous, icy tension. The conversation he was having was clearly not going well.
Starla quieted her footsteps as she approached, catching the tail end of his sentence.
"I said just keep Brinley alive," Herbert snapped into the phone, his voice laced with venom. "Why the hell was she sent to Celestial Bay?"
Starla stopped dead in her tracks.
Brinley? Celestial Bay?
So... the person who had been secretly protecting Brinley... was Herbert?
The blood in her veins turned to ice. No wonder Garret's people hadn't been able to find a single trace of the culprit. She had assumed some unknown powerhouse was lurking in the shadows of Marina City.

"You're a failure as a husband and coward as a Man" This is what i want to say in Fairfax hahaha you dont deserved a wife if you cant protect her...
Hahaha This plot of story i hate about, choosing another girl instead of your own wife is something unreal, you didnt considered your wife feeling, you didnt even trust her and later on you will say sorry?? Was sorry will fixed everything you've done? Was sorry fixed her heart? it was unfair for your wife, you must choose your wife whatever it is. You know your wife well more than anyone else and the only person she should lean on was the person who pushes her away...
