A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 784

In his office, Darian was ready to put his fist through a wall. He absolutely despised the silent treatment.

His assistant, Shaw, hurried into the room. "Mr. Lynn, Ms. Mercer is in Hansville City."

Darian's jaw clenched. "What the hell is she doing there?" he growled. As far as he knew, she had zero family or business ties in that city.

"She booked a hospital appointment."

"A hospital? Is she sick?" Panic spiked through his anger. Marina City had the best medical facilities in the world; there was no reason to flee to Hansville for a checkup.

"She's in the OB-GYN department."

Despite Darian's reputation as a carefree playboy, his assistant was ruthlessly efficient. In record time, Shaw had tracked down exactly where she was and what she was doing.

The words 'OB-GYN' felt like a physical blow to Darian's chest. "What for?"

"She scheduled a pelvic ultrasound to check the fetus."

"The... fetus?" Darian stared at him, the words struggling to compute. "She's pregnant?" A sudden, euphoric rush of joy hit him, quickly followed by the sickening realization of her last text message. She was pregnant, and she was dumping him.

"Specifically, she's in the gynecology wing," Shaw clarified carefully.

"What difference does that make?"

"Obstetrics handles childbirth. Gynecology handles... other matters."

Meanwhile, Tanya was finishing up her ultrasound. The doctor confirmed she was perfectly healthy and early enough along that the procedure could be done the following day.

"Can't we do it today?" she pressed, eager to just get it over with.

"The operating rooms are completely booked. It will have to be tomorrow."

Tanya hopped off the exam table. "Fine. Put me down as the first appointment of the day."

"Will do."

She paid the surgical fees upfront without a second thought. She wasn't being impulsive; Darian's reaction to her mother's insult proved he lacked the spine to stand by her side. If they got married, she wouldn't be gaining a husbandโ€”she'd be raising a giant toddler who refused to listen.
