"You're just going to throw everything away over one fight? Who does that?!"

Their shouting match was so intense that Caden, sitting on the sofa, actually winced. Suddenly, his own girlfriend didn't seem so bad. Sure, Vivian was a bit cold sometimes, but at least she didn't turn into a fire-breathing dragon when she was mad.

Tanya furiously ended the call and glared at Caden. Her stare was so murderous he physically flinched.

"Are you leaving or not?" she asked, her voice dropping to a dangerously quiet octave.

"I... I really can't," he stammered. He desperately wanted to. She was nothing like Starla, who was at least reasonable even when angry. Tanya looked ready to grab a kitchen knife.

"Stay out of this, Caden."

"If I leave, my buddy's kid doesn't stand a chance." He knew it was true. Given how efficiently she had moved today, if he hadn't bumped into her, Darian wouldn't have known about the abortion until it was already over.

"Aren't you worried I might kill you in your sleep?"

Caden shifted uncomfortably on the couch. "You guys were perfectly fine. What could have possibly happened that a tough girl like you couldn't handle?"
