From the sounds of it, her home wasn't just a regular house—returning there might have walked her into an even bigger trap.

"I know," Starla replied. Even without the warning, her guard was completely up.

They exchanged a few more words before ending the call.

Tanya had originally called to vent about her own misery, but after hearing what Starla was dealing with, she realized her friend had it much worse.

She spun around and headed for the door.

She barely took two steps before the butler stepped into her path, blocking the exit. "Ms. Mercer, Mr. Lynn left strict orders. You are not to leave the premises."

"Get out of my way!" Tanya snapped, her temper instantly flaring.

Who the hell did he think he was? He whisks his precious childhood friend off to the hospital and has the nerve to ground her? She had never realized the bastard was this much of a controlling tyrant.

The butler didn't budge an inch, meeting her furious glare with a stoic expression.

Tanya's breathing grew ragged with anger. "What is this? Are you trying to put me under house arrest?"

"Mr. Lynn said he will be back shortly," the butler repeated calmly.

"I don't give a damn if he comes back or not! Move!"

She was already stressed enough. Facing this brick wall of a butler only solidified her realization that Darian was no different from Fairfax.

"Please don't make this difficult for me, Ms. Mercer."
