A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 836

It was an unsettling, suffocating feeling. A home was supposed to be a sanctuary, but she felt entirely unsafe here. It was as if she were being dragged into the center of a massive, violent whirlpool, and she had no idea what was waiting for her at the bottom. She despised being kept in the dark.

"Starlaโ€”"

"I feel like I can't breatheโ€”"

Her words were cut off by the sharp buzzing of Yardley's phone. His eyes flicked to the screen, and he answered it immediately.

"Speak."

"Sir, Ms. Yelchin attempted suicide! She cut her wrists!"

Yardley's face drained of color.

"What happened?!" he demanded, shooting to his feet. He glanced at Starla for a split second before marching toward the door. "Get a doctor in there immediately!" he barked into the phone, slamming the study door shut behind him.

Starla sat in the ringing silence.

*Susanna Yelchin attempted suicide...*

Starla was intensely curious about the exact nature of Yardley's relationship with Susanna. To push someone to the brink of suicide... it had to be a deeply twisted dynamic. Seeing Yardley's sheer panic over Susanna only compounded Starla's frustration.

Just then, her phone rang. It was Fairfax.

"You know Crane Park?" he asked the moment she answered.

Starla frowned.

"Why?"

"Come meet me. I'll tell you in person."

Starla scowled. She had zero desire to see him. "Aren't you afraid I'll tell Herbert you're here?"

"You won't."

If Herbert hadn't crossed her over Brinley, Starla would have happily handed Fairfax over on a silver platter. But right now, her guard was completely up against Herbert.

"Be a good girl and come see me. I don't have much time," Fairfax murmured before hanging up.

Starla glared at the disconnected screen, her brows knitted tight. She genuinely wanted to know the dark secret behind Herbert's loyalty to Brinley.
