A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 846

Birds of a feather really did flock together. Looking at Darian now, she could see flashes of both Fairfax and Herbert.

"How exactly do you want me to answer that?" Starla asked.

"Starla, I'm going to sort out the issues between me and her. I just need you to stay out of it."

Darian knew exactly what he was up against. The biggest threat to his relationship right now wasn't another manโ€”it was Tanya's best friend. Starla was the pampered princess of the Hoggart family. If she stepped in to facilitate Tanya's escape, he and Tanya would be pushed galaxies apart. He had to neutralize the threat before it even materialized.

"Are you actually capable of sorting it out?" Starla shot back, her tone sharp and unforgiving.

"You know as well as I do that when it comes to your family, you can't fix this."

"Why would you say that?"

"Setting aside the disaster of my own marriage, your family already knows she's pregnant, and their attitude hasn't changed. Do you honestly believe you can resolve this?"

If she weren't pregnant, their hostility might be somewhat understandable. But the fact that they knew she was carrying his child and still treated her like garbage? How on earth was he supposed to fix that?

Darian stopped breathing. A heavy, suffocating silence filled the line.

And now, Starla threw that exact sentiment right back in his face. "It's not worth it over a woman."

Because the problem couldn't be fixed. It wasn't just about whether the woman was worth the sacrifice; it was that the woman shouldn't be forced to endure a war against his family. It wasn't worth it for her, either.

"I know what's worth it and what isn't!" Darian snapped, his breathing ragged.

"Ha!" Starla laughed coldly. He knew? What exactly did he know? Look at the absolute mess they were in, and he still thought he had clarity?

"If you're so clear on everything, then tell meโ€”what exactly is Yulisa's role between the two of you?"
