"How exactly do you want me to answer that?" Starla asked.
"Starla, I'm going to sort out the issues between me and her. I just need you to stay out of it."
Darian knew exactly what he was up against. The biggest threat to his relationship right now wasn't another man—it was Tanya's best friend. Starla was the pampered princess of the Hoggart family. If she stepped in to facilitate Tanya's escape, he and Tanya would be pushed galaxies apart. He had to neutralize the threat before it even materialized.
"Are you actually capable of sorting it out?" Starla shot back, her tone sharp and unforgiving.
"You know as well as I do that when it comes to your family, you can't fix this."
"Why would you say that?"
"Setting aside the disaster of my own marriage, your family already knows she's pregnant, and their attitude hasn't changed. Do you honestly believe you can resolve this?"
If she weren't pregnant, their hostility might be somewhat understandable. But the fact that they knew she was carrying his child and still treated her like garbage? How on earth was he supposed to fix that?
